Summer is coming to an end. So I’m trying to get the most wear out of those Summer pieces one last time. This fringe dress from Nest Boutique is exactly the dress to do that. An almost maxi dress turned shorter dress for a little more fun. Longer for running errands and tackling my long to do list. Knotted on the side for an asymmetrical look for dinner on a patio. And this dress is also going to be the perfect dress to transition in to Fall with. Absolutely loving it.
I’m also sharing all the songs I am currently listening to non-stop. This playlist is getting me through work, errands, working out and even longer car rides for those end of Summer day trips/road trips. Take a listen and let me know your favorite on the playlist!
Can you believe it’s already the second week in August? Where has this year slipped away to? The #NSALE has come and gone and the stores are starting to be peppered with booties, sweaters, velvet and deeper, richer colors. It has me feeling all the heart eye emojis. Fall is my absolute favorite but it’s still Summer so even though I am looking at investing in pieces I can’t even fathom wearing currently there are pieces I am wearing now and already dreaming of the ways I can style them when the air gets a tad cooler.
I recently had a wedding to go to and didn’t think black was as appropriate as something a little more lively. So I was on the hunt for something outside of my color palette. And after searching and searching I came across this number from the Who What Wear collection at Target (not available online). Though it’s part of the Fall collection it was perfect for a rustic country wedding. Since working the wedding, I traded these heels for white converse after about 10 minutes and it was just as equally as cute. And perfect for any fun occasion now. And perfect to pair with tights, booties, sweaters and hats for the Fall.
What are you currently wearing now, that you can style differently for Fall?
I’ve seriously been off my game lately. I haven’t posted regularly or for weeks at a time. And it’s okay. Life has happened. And it happens to all of us. We are all human.
I don’t owe an explanation to anyone, nor do I feel the need to apologize, because like I said life happens. But sometimes life just changes so much you become lost. And that’s what has taken place in my life. Not only do I feel lost about so many things I personally have no control over, the little things I do have control over, I either don’t have the energy for ( because ya girl been working like crazy over here) or I’m in a creative rut. Mainly a creative rut.
It gets old seeing the same things over and over. Every blogger shops from the same places and gets the same articles of clothes. Though possibly styled differently, they are all the same. And in case you are new around here, I’m not like everyone else, nor do I want to be. Also I’ve been comparing myself to a lot of other people lately. Huge no, no. But I’m human. It’s all a complicated mess. Or maybe just a mental mess I have created. Who knows at this point.
I haven’t purchased really anything new (besides some sandals I got on killer sale for the fourth of July). Do I go out and shop to break this creative block? Do I try to look at my closet differently? Do I try a clothing challenge to refresh my favorite pieces? Ladies and gents, I’m not at a fork in the road, I’m at a dead end. Not sure really how to do that three point turn to get me back on the right direction.
So here’s to figuring this thing out. And figuring out what content to bring to you. And figuring out what the heck I’m even doing. And figuring out what I’m simply wearing today.
Earlier this week I posted a pretty cliche outfit idea for the Fourth of July. But you don’t have to dress in head to toe festive wear including stars and stripes, there are more stylish ways to dress festive and celebrate in style. But if you do the whole cliche #ootd, that’s totally cool and you do you boo; but it’s not for everyone.
If you are wanting to be patriotic and still stylish it’s very simple. Find a color palette of blues, reds or whites. You can actually mix all three in tastefully like adding a red lip to a classic jean shorts and white t-shirt look. Extremely casual, perfect for the holiday activities and still festive AF. Also all the Summer vibes which the 4th of July is all about. I opted for the very classic white tee and denim shorts look paired with funky glasses, classic white chucks and a bold bright red lip. I through on this cocoon light weight jacket that is hand dyed with indigo for another hue of blue and a little more fun for the classic look. Also the weather has been extremely bipolar in the mountains so chilly mountain air will probably make an appearance in the evening of the Fourth. It makes a fashionable statement for the holiday but it’s also as American as apple pie and baseball.
You can find things in your closet already to wear. Like I said; just look for hues of reds, whites or blues. And put something together to make you feel put together for the holiday.
I originally tucked the white tee in to the shorts for a little more of a fun look. But I also understand it’s not for everyone. And this outfit looks just as fun with the shirt untucked.
I hope all of you have a great long holiday weekend (if you get that) and hope you all have a great time next week celebrating Summer and #Merica!
I never thought I would fall in to that trendy girl category. But here we are, and sadly there are a few trendy items I just can’t stop wearing. I love, love, love off the shoulder tops. They are the trendiest thing right now. And for good reason. They are so flattering for my body type and the casual ones I have picked up, literally just go with about everything. I have been wearing this one I scooped up from Target non stop. I really just can’t get enough of it. Perfect for errands or date night. I’m getting a lot of use out of it.
Two other things are extreme flare jeans and neck scarves. Both very groovy and 70’s vibes. I’ve always been a skinny jeans kind of gal, but thought I’ll try this out. These jeans are giving me life. Making your legs look long and lean, always a plus in book. Seriously, try on some flares; I too thought it was absurd these were back, but constantly pull these out for nights out. And I gagged when I saw the neck scarf trend was in. It reminds me of the elite at country clubs sipping martinis and looking down on the help. But if you find an edgy print, it can give you all the music festival vibes your heart desires. I love this hand dyed option from Rachel Weisberg, and the fabric is silky smooth so no sweaty necks around here.
Speaking of this scarf, you can actually enter to win one over on Instagram. Enter here!
What are your Summer must haves this season?
The Dirty Dancing remake has finally aired. There was a huge buzz about this across Asheville because most of the movie was shot in Western North Carolina, as was the original. I was raised on 80’s movies, so the original is one of my favorite movies, I would go as far as saying top 3. So of course I was a little disappointed they were trying to remake it. I’m glad I didn’t waste three hours of my time for the special. I watched bits and pieces later. I was actually kind of appalled. The dancing, acting and clothing was just ehh.
I’m disappointed that a lot of the iconic outfits weren’t even properly portrayed. Like the famous dancing, stairs scene. Not even in the remake. So I decided to recreate my own version of that #ootd to prep me for Summer. Baby is wearing a blush bodysuit, with denim shorts (belted) and white keds. Ohhh and really curly hair and a pretty pink lip. It’s 2017 and even though bodysuits are all the rage, I couldn’t find one that was the right color. Hell I couldn’t even find a bathing suit that color.
So I settled for this tank, shorts and chucks for an updated version on the Hollywood classic. The tank is no way similar but it does the trick for the closeness in color. Now I just need to go find me some stairs (the original stairs were torn down in the last 3 years) and learn a dance. Or head off to the Dirty Dancing Festival!
I hope all of you had a great weekend! Check back on Wednesday for a fun little event I took part in recently in Asheville!
The calendar doesn’t say it’s Summer yet, but it sure does feel like it lately. It’s only May and hot as all get out (it’s also extremely chilly some days) so not sure how I’m going to make it to Fall. So, since the weather has been off her rocker, I’ve decided to just go ahead and go through my closet and group all my Summer staples together, for ya know, easy grabbing. And I’ve noticed a general theme. I’m not a huge fan of shorts (I will wear them occasionally especially on beach vacation), I don’t need to bring attention to these thighs any more than it already draws, but t-shirt dresses are kind of my jam! Snug fits and flowy; I’ve got them both. And they are just perfect for Summer.
Easy and versatile, and hello: breezy! I don’t feel contained like I do in shorts or jeans. Also I love the fact that they can easy be dressed up or down. This grey dress looks fine, but plain on it’s on. I could easily throw on sandals and run errands with out feeling sticky and sweaty. This dress is also perfect for throwing on over a bathing suit post pool or biking riding from the beach to lunch or back to your hotel. And it’s versatile enough to throw on some layering pieces of jewelry (like this new piece I’m obsessed with or my favorite handmade bolo) and heels for a sultry night out on the town or a backyard BBQ. And y’all know how much I love pieces I can literally wear a different million ways because ya girl’s on a budget.
And speaking of budget. This dress is only $15.00 currently in stores, sadly there are only two prints available online. Such a good price you could stock up on all the colors and prints available!

Mother’s Day is this weekend; so I hope you have picked out your momma the best gift or have come up with a thoughtful gesture! So whether you are brunching, lunching or grilling out with your mom, your #ootd needs to be on point, because mom deserves your best look!
I’ve been looking through my closet trying to find the perfect outfit for Mother’s Day, because I’m heading to Biltmore. And the maxi dresses just seem perfect. Long enough to be classy and respectful, but with a fun boho vibe. And a maxi is easy, just the way I want dressing to be on a Sunday. You don’t have to worry about putting together an outfit that just works and let’s face it, even though we love mom, Sundays are still our lazy days.
I already have a strappy, short staple for this Spring and Summer, but this dress is going to be my maxi go to. Enough black in the dress to satisfy my neutral loving heart but with some pops of colors spaced throughout the stripes for a fun Spring/Summer pop. The added tribal print on the straps, plus a fun strappy back eliminates my need for a necklace, making it the easiest throw on and go, pulled together look. All I needed was some sandals and my go to daily jewelry (bangles and rings). Perfect for errands, traveling, brunch, cook outs or patio drinking.
Mom would def approve of this dress (and the price point).

Goodbye weekend, hello week. I didn’t actually get a weekend day this weekend because a bunch of schedule changes. And this week is going to be an extremely long, hard and sad week. So dressing for the free time I have had, it had to have absolutely no thought in to it but still look completely pulled together. Enter the high low top.
It’s your take on a breathable t-shirt but dressed up enough to make you looked pull together. I also love a good high low top for Spring and Summer, because it’s hot and humid in the South but you still want to cover up any troubled areas. And this top does just that.
I can’t find this top anywhere on the Target website, but girl if you can find this top in stores I highly suggest scooping it up. I kind of want to sleep in this top, it’s that soft. Paired with black pants and wedges says hey, I’m super comfortable but don’t look like I just rolled out of bed. And let’s just talk about the wedges for a second. Oh so comfortable! I could do all kinds of walking in these. And I did just that. Ice cream run, grocery store shopping and a few other errands.
I hope you all have a great week!

I’ve always considered myself an old soul and I tend to acquire a lot of my inspiration from old music and the ones who sang them. Even Janis Joplin. As crazy and outlandish as some of her outfits were, you can still pull inspiration from her. Always in the widest of flares possible, showing some skin, deep colors and the funky glasses. Hence how this #ootd was born.
I haven’t ever really considered flares or extremely wide pants until recently. The 70’s style is huge and I’m seeing more flares and wide pants than skinnies. I prefer to stick with snug pants for a slimming affect until I tried on something different. Game changer. Flares and wide legs if done correctly can be just as slimming and of course give you a groovy vibe.
With the jeans I decided to go with an off the shoulder top to channel that Janis Joplin “I don’t care” vibe and it paired really nicely with the extreme flares. Paired with some serious platforms and a dyed bag and I’ve got disco fever. Sometime’s the most unexpected fit and style actually works for you!
Where do you pull your inspiration from?
