Holidays are the only time I break my own fashion rules. As in I dress pretty neutral for the majority of the year, but when the opportunity opens up for me to wear some sort of festive dress, I will more than likely jump at the chance. Which is why I have this flowy pink (it’s actually more on the peach side of the spectrum) dress. I actually bought this dress for Easter Brunch last year (since we actually went somewhere extra fancy) and have never really worn it again. Which I’m not upset about because I got it for a super steal on BooHoo (honestly wasn’t expecting the quality to be as good as it was). So it was sitting in my closet ready to offer it up for anyone who wants it and was like oooooo this will be the perfect dress for Valentine’s Day and possibly Easter again. Or even to visit Biltmore Blooms.
So here I am dressed in a pink dress, which is my most hated color especially for clothing for one of the cheesiest holidays we celebrate. Though cheesy and controlled by the retail industry I still celebrate and still love it. I don’t get why people hate on it. Consumerism is a part of our daily life so what gives. Any excuse for me to get dressed up and write hand written cards is a win win in my book. Ohhh and by dressed up, I mean even for making a frozen pizza at home.
But this dress just screams Valentine’s Day. It’s off the shoulder which gives it a sexy, sultry vibe, but flirty, fun and conservative with the ruffles, shape and length. Perfect for dancing in or just twirling around in. And bringing back my Christmas shoes, because red DUH, for a playful fun take on the whole outfit. Kept all my jewelry simple to focus on the flows of this dress. Move over stuffy, over planned date night, I’m ready for something fun!

There are times when I do like to add a pop of color to an outfit, especially around holidays. So since Valentine’s Day is right around the corner it’s the perfect excuse to add some pops of red to an #ootd. I’m not the hugest fan of pink (unless it’s blush and muted) so red is my go to Valentine’s Day color.
This outfit works perfectly for me for Valentine’s Day. It’s comfortable, flattering and perfect for date night just about anywhere. Adding tights and booties gives it that extra layer of warmth for the cold spell we are having in the mountains and are bound to have in February. But this would be cute sans those with some strappy black sandals. I added a bold necklace to give the sleek and modern fit of the outfit another pop and fun element for date night. Since a pencil skirt and peplum is enough on it’s on, I added a classic vintage clutch just big enough for necessities. And there it is, the perfect Valentine’s date night outfit!

I recently went in to Target because a.) it’s Target and b.) I had some left over gift card from Christmas. I wanted to find a red top or sweater because I only have red blazers and bottoms and wanted to add a top for a Valentine’s Day blog post and possibly for my Valentines. I came across this top because it was stripes (my current obsession), wasn’t over kill on the red and it was extremely affordable so I could get it with what I had left on that gift card. I didn’t bother trying it on. Let me just tell you, this top is amazing. It fits perfectly! I want to get all the colors (well maybe not the pinky colors). So for my Valentine’s Day #ootd I decided whether it would be overkill or not, I was pairing this with a striped skirt. I figured it would be a disaster but nope, I love it. And it fits my edgy style perfectly. By adding a pair of rock n roll inspired booties and a glam necklace everything evens out and is perfect for hitting up a nice little spot for dinner this Sunday (even though that’s probably not what I’m doing). Don’t be afraid to go crazy with the prints! The reason this works so well is because both patterns of stripes have white in it. Add accessories that play up your personal style.
For the past week I have been asking you all to share your favorite Valentine’s Day memories so I thought I would share mine. I actually have two.
The first favorite memory was while I was in college, the first time actually living off campus. But single. Whomp, whomp, whomp. Luckily my neighbor didn’t have a significant other to spend the night with either so we were celebrating on our own. Diet coke and rum, candies and running outside plenty. Then our upstairs neighbor whom we weren’t that close with came running outside with wine saying he was “his own damn Valentine”. That night a unique friendship between all three of us formed as we all claimed each other as Valentines. To this day we still call each other Valentine.
My second favorite is of course with my Andrew. The first few years we were together we both had jobs that didn’t pay that great and we were barely able to take care of ourselves so holidays weren’t really celebrated. We would of course spend time together but it wasn’t romantic dates or anything over the top special. Our third Valentine’s Day together we both were more stable and Andrew pulled out all the stops. We had recently been snowed in and I was for sure we weren’t doing anything for Valentine’s Day. But instead Andrew made reservations at a new restaurant in town I had been dying to try. He then gifted me a Pandora charm of a snowflake to signify our first real snow together. Then we finished our downtown date with a trip to French Broad Chocolates. Everything was great, but Andrew was more excited than I probably was that he was able to do all these things. The day was ended with me attempting to make foods I had never cooked before and we fixed the dinner together. One of the best memories.
It’s almost Valentine’s Day. When looking for the perfect dress for a romantic evening I always tend to go for something black, with touches of lace or a combination of the two. Because who doesn’t love a LBD that has hints of lace. Black is just about my go to for everything so when I found this dress for a killer steal at Target, I knew I had to use my Christmas gift card to scoop it up. I’m still working out the way I want to wear it because I feel like with tights and heels it makes me feel stuffy, and with tights the fabric was extra clingy. Maybe with leggings and some killer booties for a dressed down Coven look. That’s fashion though, constantly playing around with something until you get it the way you like it and that it flatters your body type. I hope you have your vixen attire ready because Sunday is only a few days away.
