Hilton Head Island Travel Diary: The iPhone Version

So if you aren’t following me on Instagram (which you should because sometimes it’s funny) you may not have known that I took a much needed vacation last week to Hilton Head Island. It’s one of my favorite places for a ton of different reasons. I love the atmosphere, the scenes, the fact that it is a quiet community and the food! So here are some of the highlights of my trip!

For the first time in almost four years we stayed on the South end of the island, right down the street from Coligny Beach. We were walking distance from food and shopping of any kind; and the most important, we were on beach front so we could easily walk to the beach at any given time during the day. It was so easy to have a relaxing vacation when everything was at your fingertips. Plus it didn’t hurt that according to the FitBit, we got well over 10,000 steps a day. Plus you could constantly hear the waves crashing which is the ultimate sound for relaxation.

Being so close to the beach and the fact that this was a much needed vacation was a no brainer that all day, every day I was at the beach. I loaded up on the SPF and literally chilled. The beach was quiet after Labor Day Weekend and even more quiet with the threat of a hurricane. But still I relaxed. And swam in the ocean. And played with sea creatures. I’ve got plenty of questions about this hat, the striped bathing suit and the kimono cover up; so they are all linked here!

Hilton Head Island is known for their world class golf courses and food. And well let’s just say I prefer food over the links. I have been waiting 5 whole years to try this place. They shut down for a week before Summer and it just so happens that’s always the week I visit. But it was worth the wait. Perfectly cooked cajun southern food. I had the etoufee and it was amazzzzzinggggg! If you visit Hilton Head, I suggest visiting Kenny B’s.

I found Java Burrito Company on Instagram and I am so glad that I did. It’s like a local Chipotle but for every meal and a full coffee bar inside. I had a breakfast bowl and iced dirty chai. Hands down one of the best decisions I made on that trip.

Ela’s is becoming a favorite on the island for me to visit. A little swanky, quiet, on the waterfront and the service and food is outstanding. We visiting the day before the evacuation was in order for Irma and they were still open. We had the place to ourselves and the service nor food suffered due to being understaffed or the island becoming a ghost town.

Marley’s Island Grill was a first for me, but not a last. Sooooooo good! A Caribbean take on local seafood. I got chorizo almond crusted scallops which may actually be one of the top 20 best meals of my life. So good.

There is just beauty and magic every where on the island. Maybe it’s because you are on vacation or island time. Whatever it is, it works. My soul feels a little more full after my visit there.

Happy Travels!

Traveling #OOTD

There is still time to get some last minute Summer traveling in, but I personally prefer to travel in the Fall. And it’s probably because I live in a tourist town where everyone flocks to it during the Fall time. Those beautiful leaves y’all! So I’m off to the beach for a week, vacay started Saturday and I have several other travel plans for the Fall (and escaping all those leaf lookers). And the weather is cooling off and let’s be real; I like to have the car feeling like Antarctica when I’m traveling even if I need to wrap up in something cozy due to it. So this look is perfect from going from somewhere chillier (or even traveling to somewhere chillier) to somewhere warmer. And it’s perfect for going from the car ride or flight to going straight to getting your vacation on.

I’ve said it before and million times over, but a t-shirt dress is the answer to all your styling problems. It’s simple, versatile and most of the times you can find them for extremely affordable prices. Plus it can carry you from season to season, or from somewhere chillier to warmer. I love this striped one I got at Target in the early Spring. It’s striped (duh), the perfect weight, comfy as all get out and can be worn super casual or dressed up. Plus it doesn’t get wrinkled as easy even after being in the car (or plane) for hours.

I paired it with a light weight cardigan for temperature changes and to just be comfy in the car. Plus if I get to hot, this cardigan will make a great pillow. Versatile pieces guys! With comfort being key, I paired this with some Converse shoes. It has a whole beachy casual vibe to it, but when I get to the island, if I need to make a quick change I can easily throw on some sandals and be ready to go.

Let’s not forget the big bag. Easy to carry all the important things like a phone charger, reading material, road trip snacks and anything I may want to change in to if I’m not heading to the villa first.

Ready to go! Make sure you all are following along on Instagram as I will really be documenting this much anticipated and much needed vacation.

Adele Weekend Part: Blog

So this weekend was finally the weekend I was waiting for, for almost an entire year. Adele released 25 last year, excited was an understatement. The world hadn’t heard from her in such a long time, and as someone who loves her, it was amazing. Then she announced a tour. Now back when she was (attempting) to tour for 21 I attempted to get tickets (as in prayed, refreshed, stood outside when the venue was changed; no avail). Adele tickets literally sell out within the minute of becoming available. So I knew it wasn’t something I couldn’t actually see but still I was hopeful. I said I would be the happiest person if I could get the tickets as a Christmas present. 2 weeks later, SURPRISE! I had no idea Andrew was able to get them, best kept secret.

So this weekend was finally the weekend! For almost a whole year I have counted down, I have anticipated, I have prepped. And it was finally here.

Can I just say the show was a once in a life time experience. Absolutely amazing. I cried, I laughed, I danced, I screamed so much I was horse the next day.

The concert itself was just too good. Girl can bring down the house. And she’s hilarious! One of the best nights of my life!

I decided to go semi tech free during the show kind of last minute. For starters my phone was running low by the time we were actually seated and I decided last minute to kind of savoir the moment, live in it and fully experience. I mean this was a legit experience of a life time and I didn’t want to be worried about recording and snapping. Plus the Phillips Arena is huge and I probably would have accidentally tossed my phone out of excitement. However there are a few shots over on my Instagram that I got towards the end of the show!

So since we stayed in Atlanta for the night, the next day we explored. FYI we stayed at the HYATT Regency and I highly recommend it if you are traveling to Atlanta. Best service, nice rooms, awesome architecture and design and yummy yummy breakfast! Sunday we took in the city views, visited the World of Coca Cola (because who doesn’t want to try cokes from all over the world) and ate at Eats (which you need to visit if you love good soul food). All in all, one of the greats 36 hours of my life!

Road Trip Favorites

Ahhhh I’m so excited to be heading on a celebration vacation! Every time I’m ready to head out on a road trip I begin thinking of all the songs I’m going to listen to on the way to the destination. Generally I try to download the songs to iTunes even though a part of me always still wants to burn a CD to remind me of my old road trips. So I go through a make an upbeat playlist and have this plan to have a great party in the car but generally I play about 5 songs, pass out and wake up just in time to be getting to the vacation spot. So here are a few songs I constantly listen to when I’m heading out on a road trip.

I loveeeeee this song and generally I am traveling with Andrew so it makes it special. No matter where we are, where we travel to, I always feel at home with him by my side.

I have a little thug nasty side (not going to lie) and I have a slight obsession with Tupac (West Side)! Hahaha I have no idea why, but I have to listen to this song when traveling. Haha. This song brings back so many college memories and just puts a smile on my face.

I just can’t help it, I love this song and it reminds me of Summer. It actually reminds me of late night car rides with the windows and the mountain air blowing in.

There’s a lot of flipping through Pandora stations between the 2000’s Hip Hop station, Florence and The Machines station and Spice Girls station.

I’m heading on an exciting trip to celebrate graduating so there’s going to be a bunch of fun stuff going down or maybe a lot of sleep or maybe just a lot of relaxing. Either way make sure you are following on Instagram and SnapChat (s.ferguson6623) to follow along with all the exciting things I will be up to!

Weekend Adventure Diary

This past Sunday we headed to Chimney Rock to test out the new ENO Hammock and have a relaxing weekend in nature. It was perfect to forget the stress of the work and school week and exactly what we both needed. It was the perfect Spring like day (since it’s supposed to snow this weekend). First off I have to tell you that this ENO hammock is amazing and it is the most comfortable thing ever and I can’t wait to go camping in this. Andrew purchased mine from Black Dome Mountain Sports and I got him one from the company Raven Designs sold there as well. Probably the best gift we could gift each other. We drove up to Lake Lure because I just have to have a Dirty Dancing moment, walked over the flower bridge and got some snack in the little downtown area before settling in by Broad River.  This Spring or Summer I highly suggest taking a drive up there whether to do water sports on Lake Lure or hike through Chimney Rock, it’s one of my favorite little areas in WNC.

Fall in Western North Carolina

This past weekend was one of the peak weekends for Fall colors in the Blue Ridge Mountains. And Andrew wanted to get some photos. So we got bundled up and took Romantic Asheville’s advice and road far North on the Blue Ridge Parkway. It was freezing as we drove into higher elevations and there were so many tourists. It was an all day event. There was no vigorous hiking this weekend due to there being so many tourists and recovering from being sick but the sights were still amazing. We visited the viaduct which I had never seen in person before. There was a lot of pulling over for picture opportunities. And then we ended up at a lake. And we got in a canoe. Even though the time was mostly spent in the car, it was still pretty amazing. And if you have the chance to get out on the Blue Ridge Parkway before it closes for the winter, I highly suggest it..

Early Fall Stroll Through Biltmore + $89.00 Season Passes

This past weekend it was beautiful. The perfect way to end Summer. I went to Biltmore in hopes of seeing the sunflowers for the last time (which I didn’t) and was pleasantly surprised by all of the roses in bloom in the gardens. I love just walking through the gardens, sitting outside there, packing a picnic. My Biltmore season pass has probably been my best investment. I can’t until the leaves start changing more and Christmas there!

For the rest of the month you can all get Biltmore season passes for only $89.00. All you have to do is mention “Biltmore Friend” when you visit the ticket office or when you purchase online. This is a great deal because currently the tickets are $60.00 for the day. Plus with the season pass you get discounts on wine, at the shops and at the restaurants. The season pass is a great deal because it pays for itself if you visit twice.

What is your favorite thing about Biltmore?.

I went to Pawley’s Island last week for the last vacation of the summer! Located in the lowcountry of South Carolina I got to experience a lot of great food, the wonderful beach, golf and the nature surrounding the beach. This time I focused more on the experiences than documenting the time, so there isn’t a ton of pictures. All in all it was a good trip (besides all the rain storms) and can’t wait to head to the beach again.

What was your favorite thing you did this summer?.

Braids and Tourists Shirts

Traveling, exploring and visiting places is one of my joys in life, we will just say it’s the wanderlust in me. I have acquired shirts from almost every where I have visited or events participated in when I have traveled (who remembers summer camp?!) and most people think it’s very juvenile to wear these shirts, but I say tourist shirts make some of the greatest #ootd. I’m wearing a baseball tee I got from the Sierra Nevada Taproom in Mills River NC (because I love beer DUH) and because Andrew said we NEEDED shirts. This shirt was so easy to style and I have plenty of other ideas in mine for that it made it my style and not “look at me I’m a tourist”. I added shorts that had a feminine detail to it to eliminate the boyish look you can get with a baseball tee. I then added simple shoes and some dainty jewelry. I then added a dramatic pony tail with braids included to showcase my style a little more with the #OOTD.

TIPS FOR BUYING SOUVENIR SHIRTS! When you are buying tourist shirts from any adventure look for the fit of the shirt, surprisingly there are now a million different styles even when it comes to you beach shirt. I opt for something soft and generally with a fit. Avoid tacky add ons. When I’m looking for a shirt to pick up from a vacation I tend to avoid the ones that have the added beachy images. Look for simple font or a logo. Pick something you can style different ways. I like to look for shirts I can wear with a skirt or jeans, throw a blazer over it or can be worn through out several seasons with different accessories.

Beer Lovers Date

This year Sierra Nevada opened up a brewery in Mills River, NC right past the Asheville airport. Andrew and I hadn’t been yet due to the hype of it still being new and packed but decided to recently take the plunge and go. Even though we had to wait for a table for an hour and could not go on the tour (because it’s backed up so far on waiting list), I’m glad we did. The building is beautiful including the brewery, gift shop and restaurant/bar. We were unable to spend any time on the grounds due to a wonderful summer mountain storm. At Sierra Nevada we were able to sample beers you can’t buy at the grocery store but can take home from there. Andrew loves Sierra Nevada, it’s probably his favorite beer company, so he was like a kid in a kid in a candy store, seriously if your significant other loves beer this is a sure fire place to visit. The menu is small plates meant for sharing so we got the Duck Fat Fries, Pork Cheeks, and Chorizo Verde & White Beans. The fries were out of this world yummy, the pork cheeks were almost orgasmic, the grits with the pork cheeks were by far the best I’ve ever had (and I’m a southerner so I’ve had a lot of grits) and the chorizo and beans were not what I expected in a good way. While there we learned that most of the food is local, the meat is cured in house, everything is made fresh to order and the plates are delivered when ready. Andrew and I have had several Sierra Nevada beers so we tried ones we haven’t. We feel in love with the Stout and the Double Dubble taste like whiskey! We hands down feel in love with this place and agreed it was in the top three spots of our dining experiences in Asheville. If you get the chance to go, even if you don’t drink beer, it’s a must!.
