Holiday Style: Christmas Dress

I wasn’t looking for a Christmas dress, I was going to re-style something that was already in my closet, but then I randomly saw this dress. Bright red, flowy, ruffles and flutter sleeves. Loved it! Tried it on, felt good in it, but didn’t buy it. I didn’t need the dress. I wasn’t sure if I would wear something so bright, because hello, I’m the girl who wears black on a regular basis. But then I was working on a few things, planning some more things for the blog and got an invite to a party. I will also have a wedding to attend in the fall of next year that this would be perfect for, so I went ahead and bought it. Because after long contemplation, I would get my wear out of it.

This dress is perfect for any festive event you have coming up this holiday season and it’s even more perfect because I know you are spending a ton of presents and the perfect decorations. This dress is under $35.00 and would be flattering on so many skin tones and shapes. This can be taken really festive, retro glam or even just kept simple and all three ways to style it would still be great for the holidays.

I just paired this with an oversized fur coat and block heels for a simple 70’s glam look. Not overly festive but also I can say Happy Holidays in this without feeling like a grinch. Seriously if you are in Target, check out this dress, it’s worth the double take.

Thanksgiving Outfit #2: Cozy Knits

Comfort food, pie, cuddling by a fire and cozy sweaters; exactly what any holiday should involve especially  Thanksgiving. To top it off, sweater weather is in full force around here! I love that they are tons of ways to incorporate knits in to your wardrobe these days but I have finally bought an actual sweater. Generally, I lean towards knit cardigans because I’m so hot natured, but this year I took a leap and invested in a nicer sweater to get me through the Fall and Winter.

A sweater is just the most simple way to put together an #ootd, making it especially great for Thanksgiving day! To make the outfit look less frumpy, I paired the sweater with light skinny jeans and over the knee boots. Now pass the pie!

Also sweater dresses and cozy cardigans would be great for some fun layering for Thanksgiving. These sweaters will help create some dimension to your look and add some texture, making your holiday style that much better!

Party Dress

Dress // Shoes

I bought this dress specifically for going out for my birthday. It seemed like the perfect choice. The print was of course just my style but the shape is what drew me in. Low cut, which I’m loving lately and a wrap, another feature I’m loving lately. The shape is great. From the wrapped bottom to the flutter sleeves it seemed like the perfect dress for some dancing.

Mind you I did not actually get to go dancing minus the few shimmies I made on the way to the car, but it was also the perfect dress for a nice night out. Whatever I was doing.

This dress would be perfect for those last of Summer get togethers or even just patio dining before it gets too cold. But even if cold, I think this dress will make it’s way out of the closet again for some holiday parties paired with some tights and a leather jacket.

I honestly can’t believe next Thursday is Thanksgiving! How is this even possible?

So I start thinking about the holidays and how my wardrobe will work for the holidays early on. Probably when Fall fashion starts hitting the shelves. I’m not the hugest sparkle fan (even though you will be seeing a fun skirt soon) so it’s ok for me to start looking early. A few things come to mind. First off I want to be stylish because I’m known as the fashion blogger in the family and because I know pictures are going to be taken if I’m not planning on them. But then there are a few other things to keep in mind but mainly is it comfortable. I mean there is a lot of cooking, a lot of relaxing, a lot of running around and then there is a lot of eating.

So when I saw this blouse at Target I knew it was the perfect thing to wear to Thanksgiving dinner! It screams fall, the color is perfect for Thanksgiving, it’s flowy and it has some awesome detailing. I was sold! I’ve decided to pair it with distressed denim and booties for a casual, comfortable yet chic look. I’m going to go ahead and call this my sophisticated pilgrim #ootd.

When Clothing Speaks To You

Dress // Necklace // Similar Booties

I have a very firm rule when shopping for clothing, if it’s not something I am in need of and find it and like it, I will wait to see if I’m still interested later to buy. This helps with a lot of impulse buying and filling my closet with things I don’t really love or things I will not get a lot of use out of. This dress is one of those wait for it moments, but could have actually bought it immediately.

I was strolling through Target after work, which I do way too often, and looking at new Fall pieces that might be fun to add to the wardrobe. I had been gifted a gift card after all. When I was doing this I knew in the back of my mind I was looking for something fun to wear to the Adele concert but wasn’t intentionally looking for my Adele concert dress. The Who What Wear collection caught my eye especially the faux suede olive sleeveless trench but this little number was hiding behind it. The print kind of reminded me of the 70’s so I didn’t even pull it off the rack. After wondering and wondering and not finding anything, I went back to this dress and pulled it off the rack. It wasn’t until then that I saw the faux leather detailing and the shape. My first thought I would like it better all black but still tried it on.

In the fitting room I’m pretty sure I actually said “WTF” because the dress fit amazingly. The cut was perfect. It fit in all the right ways. The bodice works perfect with my body shape and the angled hemline doesn’t cut my legs off in a weird way. The print grew on me simply for the fact that it was an amazing fit. I took some pictures for SnapChat (s.ferguson6623) saying a possible choice for the Adele concert. And still went home empty handed.

I kept thinking about this dress. I kept think about how amazing I felt in it. How many uses I could get out of it. How affordable it was for the quality. How the print was growing on me. How I liked the little details on the dress. And just like that, I went back to Target and added this baby to my closet. Now I’m already imagining holiday parties and a night with Adele in this dress.

Pre-Fall Outfit

Jeans // Shirt // Necklace // Scarf // Bag // Hat // Booties

It’s finally starting to feel like Fall here in the mountains. Some leaves are already starting to change and there is that perfect crisp to the air in the morning time. The first part of Labor Day weekend was the first taste of Fall. It felt absolutely amazing. I didn’t run and pull out all my sweaters because let’s face I would still die but I did start finally thinking about Fall pieces. How could I not when it felt perfect outside?

Since it’s still hot during the day I came up with this minimalist #ootd. Swapping shorts for jeans and sandals for my favorite booties right now. Adding pops of Fall color through the scarf on my bag. Keeping the shirt light and jewelry minimal for when it gets hotter later in the day. Throwing on a hat to feel a little more like Fall is here, even though though it’s still around the corner.

I’m in love with the ease of this outfit. It’s so functional for me, fits my style and is absolutely comfortable.

Skirt, Top, Vest – Target (all old) // Sandals- Forever 21 // Earrings- Rachel Weisberg

While prepping for finals, I have had to prep for a very big presentation where I have to fit my identity as well as look professional. So as a fashion lover and student, I pulled this number together in hopes of it working for my presentation. The black and white palette is of course classic and professional on it’s own and wearing a skirt and blouse are professional on their own. I played up my love for fashion by playing with different textures. The skirt has a lace overlay, the blouse has cutouts at the top and is in a silky material and instead of pairing it with a blazer I opted for the more chic blazer vest. I kept everything very simple as to not distract from my actual presentation. Sometimes going simple with everything is the way to go, the understated jewelry and makeup bring more focus to my powerhouse #ootd. And do I feel like a #girlboss or what?! I have another option for my presentation but as far as looking professional, I think this may be the winner.

Shirt (similar, similar) // Jeans // Vest // Sandals // Bag // Sunnies // Rings- Elementality, Ashkal & Pandora // Necklace (similar, similar)

What’s not to love about this outfit. When I picked up this vest I wasn’t exactly sure how it was going to play out in my wardrobe but I knew it was would be a great layering piece for that city chic fashion intern look I was going for. I love the masculine details in this vest and when getting dressed for this day the entire #ootd kind of just fell together. The boyfriend jeans, boxy shirt and utility vest, especially the dark green color scream masculine but when paired with fun accessories it makes the perfect pair of masculine and feminine. I love everything about this outfit. From the stripes, the sandals, my custom leather bag, funky sunnies and the boho jewelry. This might just be one of my new favorite outfits that I have put together. And I feel SASSY AF in this!

Coachella Inspired

For the past two weekends all I have seen on social media are posts from Coachella and of course I’m a little jealous because I’m here in Asheville working and doing homework. So on Sunday when I had to run out and do some errands for a few projects I decided to bring Coachella with me in my #ootd minus faux body tattoos and floral crowns. This boyfriend top from Old Navy is the perfect basic piece to build up a boho look due to the shape. So I paired it with some DIY cutoffs for a little more festival flare. The finishing touches were the side braid and hat (but let’s be honest it was to disguise my dirty hair), neon tribal necklace, layered rings and booties. Then I jammed to Ellie Goulding in the car so in my mind it was kind of like the first weekend of Coachella minus the desert and all the famous people! I hope you all have a great start to the week!

Don’t forget currently A Day in the Life of One Girl and I are hosting an awesome Mother’s Day Giveaway where you could enter to win a $50.00 gift card to Amazon or an Asheville mani and pedi along with some other fun goodies. You only have until Saturday to enter and you can enter HERE!

Top-Versona // Skirt-Versona // Necklace-Versona (only available in stores) // Sunnies-Versona (only available in stores) // Booties-Target (old, similar)

I loved this look so much from my styling with Versona in Asheville that I had to share a little more. I absolutely love this look. It’s really simple to play up any look that may be intended for dressing up. This skirt was in the dressier section of Versona so I paired it with an oversized, flowy cotton shirt tucking only a portion in. Tucking only a portion in accents the waist and gives a more relaxed, edgy vibe. Since I did color blocking I wanted to add a pop of color without going overboard which is why I opted for neon Navajo inspired necklace. Paired with my favorite black booties gives it even a more relaxed look. Fashion is all about playing around and finding what works for you. If you want to see the other looks I styled with Versona you can do so here!

Also I have two different GIVEAWAYS going at the moment. You can enter to win a $50.00 Amazon gift card package and a Mani/Pedi package in honor of Mother’s Day HERE! You can enter to win a fair trade, ethical mint green necklace perfect for Spring, Mother’s Day or graduation HERE!
