Pumpkin Spice

Jeans and Cardigan- Nest // Top // Shoes // Purple Choker – Embellish, Dangle Choker – Fox & Beaux

I know Fall is creeping in. Summer clothes are making their way out of the stores. I for one am as happy as a clam. And even more happy, because the weather in Asheville has been fickle the past week. And it’s got me feeling all sorts of good. So this week I have been trying out some light Fall wear, just to see how well it will transition when the weather gets real finicky at the end of September, beginning of October.

I picked up this cocoon shaped cardigan recently from Nest, a local boutique in Biltmore Village, and love the earthy rust tone. It is ironically named The Pumpkin Spice Cardigan. I gag at the thought of drinking a #PSL (but some pumpkin cream cheese and I’m in) but I can totally dive in to the pumpkin craze with this. I paired it with white denim and a swing tank top to still get a Summer chic vibe, pair wedged sandals with and it still screams Summer, just a little bit of added warmth for those chilly nights.

I’m liking what I’m seeing so far for Fall. And honestly I think I’m going to have a lot of fun playing with it this season. Ohhh and I’m also patiently waiting for some apple cider and the Blue Ridge Parkway madness. What are you the most excited about for this Fall season?

Where I’ve Been Lately

I’ve seriously been off my game lately. I haven’t posted regularly or for weeks at a time. And it’s okay. Life has happened. And it happens to all of us. We are all human.

I don’t owe an explanation to anyone, nor do I feel the need to apologize, because like I said life happens. But sometimes life just changes so much you become lost. And that’s what has taken place in my life. Not only do I feel lost about so many things I personally have no control over, the little things I do have control over, I either don’t have the energy for ( because ya girl been working like crazy over here) or I’m in a creative rut. Mainly a creative rut.

It gets old seeing the same things over and over. Every blogger shops from the same places and gets the same articles of clothes. Though possibly styled differently, they are all the same. And in case you are new around here, I’m not like everyone else, nor do I want to be. Also I’ve been comparing myself to a lot of other people lately. Huge no, no. But I’m human. It’s all a complicated mess. Or maybe just a mental mess I have created. Who knows at this point.

I haven’t purchased really anything new (besides some sandals I got on killer sale for the fourth of July). Do I go out and shop to break this creative block? Do I try to look at my closet differently? Do I try a clothing challenge to refresh my favorite pieces? Ladies and gents, I’m not at a fork in the road, I’m at a dead end. Not sure really how to do that three point turn to get me back on the right direction.

So here’s to figuring this thing out. And figuring out what content to bring to you. And figuring out what the heck I’m even doing. And figuring out what I’m simply wearing today.

The Land of The Free and The Home of the Stylish

Earlier this week I posted a pretty cliche outfit idea for the Fourth of July. But you don’t have to dress in head to toe festive wear including stars and stripes, there are more stylish ways to dress festive and celebrate in style. But if you do the whole cliche #ootd, that’s totally cool and you do you boo; but it’s not for everyone.

If you are wanting to be patriotic and still stylish it’s very simple. Find a color palette of blues, reds or whites. You can actually mix all three in tastefully like adding a red lip to a classic jean shorts and white t-shirt look. Extremely casual, perfect for the holiday activities and still festive AF. Also all the Summer vibes which the 4th of July is all about. I opted for the very classic white tee and denim shorts look paired with funky glasses, classic white chucks and a bold bright red lip. I through on this cocoon light weight jacket that is hand dyed with indigo for another hue of blue and a little more fun for the classic look. Also the weather has been extremely bipolar in the mountains so chilly mountain air will probably make an appearance in the evening of the Fourth.  It makes a fashionable statement for the holiday but it’s also as American as apple pie and baseball.

You can find things in your closet already to wear. Like I said; just look for hues of reds, whites or blues. And put something together to make you feel put together for the holiday.

I originally tucked the white tee in to the shorts for a little more of a fun look. But I also understand it’s not for everyone. And this outfit looks just as fun with the shirt untucked.

I hope all of you have a great long holiday weekend (if you get that) and hope you all have a great time next week celebrating Summer and #Merica!

Millennial Pink

SHOP THIS LOOK: Top // Jeans // Shoes // Necklaces // Bag

First things first, we all know I’m a neutral girl, but this past Spring and this Summer I have been trying to branch out a little with my neutrals. I’ve added a few new things like white jeans and this awesome mauve/millennial pink top. Baby steps y’all, baby steps.

I can’t stop hearing about the millennial pink fad, and let’s face it I hate pink. It’s not my color. But a blush, mauve color I can actually get with. And those colors apparently fall under the millennial pink fad. I wasn’t even looking for a pink top, because the above sentence. I was actually looking for a burnt orange top when I stumbled upon this one. I was intrigued and actually fell in love in the fitting room. Ya know sometimes things just work out. The flow, the fabric, the shape and the off the shoulder trend were all there for me, so i brought it home with me. And I love it.

It’s a little different for me and not as casual as I normally gravitate towards. This paired with any jeans is perfect, but with white jeans it’s the perfect combo for a Summer night on the town. And these white jeans from the newly opened Nest are great. Especially if you have some curves. But more on Nest later.

Plus this top works great to wear both off the shoulder and on. So if you can’t get on the bare shoulder trend, it would still be a great top for you! Gotta love versatile pieces y’all!

Check back tomorrow for a great outfit for the 4th!

Seeing Stars

SHOP THIS POST: Tank // Jeans // Sneakers // Scarf (in stores only in the Dollar Spot) // Sunnies

We’ve come a long way in styling an #ootd for the Fourth of July since our mom dressed us and our siblings in matching Old Navy Flag Shirts. Ohh you know exactly what I’m talking about. And if you feel so inclined to go down memory lane, they are still producing their classic flag tee every year, here’s this year’s version. So this year I opted for some classic Old Navy goodness to bring together my patriotic 4th of July outfit.

I went for a super casual tank, that has stars on it, duhhh. Extremely flowy, really faded and all the Americana vibes. And by faded, I mean real faded. You will only be able to wear a nude bra with this because the material is extremely lightweight (yes please for that hot, sticky day) and you can see through it, especially the star portion. I like this tank because it’s cliche enough to wear for fireworks and cook outs but I can totally style this all Summer longer for a little edgier look. And it’s also not over the top cliche. But it’s the 4th of July, so who really cares honestly.

I paired this tank with cuffed jeans for that perfect Summer touch and a more grown up and pulled together look than pairing this with shorts. Ohh I cuffed these jeans to have some sort of air flow because we all know it’s bound to be hot and sweaty on the holiday in the South. Threw on some white chucks and paired it with a festive scarf and I’m ready to go. Can you guys believe I found this scarf in the Dollar Spot at Target?!? Red, lightweight and it has the most adorable patriotic tassels along the edges. $3.00! Win, Win for something you won’t wear all the time.

This look is perfect for a BBQ, beer and fireworks. Also if you are in Asheville please let me know where you watch fireworks. Almost 8 holidays here and I still haven’t found the “perfect” spot. Bring on the sparklers!

What are y’all wearing and getting in to for the holiday?

I’ll be sharing a more sophisticated 4th of July outfit later this week, because some of us will still choose fashion and style over cliche holiday vibes.

Also make sure you are following me on Instagram because I am hosting a huge giveaway for a Summer makeover along with some other amazing blogger babes this week! Get yourself entered!

Galentine’s Day Brunching Boho Vibes

Top // Jeans // Booties // Bag // Sweater // Choker // Necklace // Ring & Ring // Hat

I wore this exact same basic outfit in Monday’s blog post, but I created a totally different look to show you the versatility of a basic outfit and mixing up the pieces. So on Monday I showed you the perfect modern rocker chic look great for date night with your SO for Valentine’s Day, so today I’m creating a boho chic look perfect for brunching with your girls for Galentine’s Day or even celebrating the day of love with your love the weekend before antique shopping, eating tacos and hitting up your favorite coffee shop!

A girl really can’t go wrong with some awesome black booties, black jeans and a striped shirt. So for this look I added an oversized cardigan to create texture and warmth and for a more casual, laid back look. To pull the whole look together a hat, oversized funky leather bag and chokers were much needed. And from a really simple #ootd, I created a funky look perfect for a weekend of celebrating with your favorite people, that doesn’t scream Valentine’s Day.

Girls, seriously invest in black jeans, black booties and a striped shirt. It’s so versatile and a life saver when you are having a “I have nothing in my closet” feeling.

Cold Shoulder

Dress- Old (similar) // Sunnies- Charmed

The off the shoulder trend has been extremely popular this Summer, and it doesn’t look like the trend is dying down for Fall fashion. The trend hasn’t worked really well with me at all. I’ve tried, trust me. They don’t seem to fit right, bunch in all the wrong places or completely itch me to death. I bought this dress last year for a beach trip and decided to pull it out this past week. I’ve avoided wearing this dress this season because it’s horrible with wrinkles and as soon as it’s ironed it is wrinkled again. But I didn’t care. I still don’t care that it was wrinkled. Because it’s Summer, it’s hot and I was setting off on an adventure anyways. So maybe I will look for some more off the shoulder pieces. Maybe I will try a little harder, because the silhouette is actually flattering on me. But we shall see!

Boyfriend’s Closet

Top // Jeans // Sandals // Necklace (gifted) // Similar Hat // Sunnies

No I didn’t not get dressed from my boyfriends closet but I did finally cave on the boyfriend jean trend. And ahhh I’m so gad I did. These jeans are the best. They aren’t uncomfortable like a lot of jeans are and the loose fit is perfect for casual days. I even went as far as wearing a boyfriend shaped shirt in the fact that it is loose everywhere. In order to wear this look and not look like a total frump is by adding feminine details like the chunky sandals I paired with this. It would also look cute with a fitted top and booties. I can’t believe it took me this long to hop on this trend because I may actually live in these jeans.

Top-Versona // Skirt-Versona // Necklace-Versona (only available in stores) // Sunnies-Versona (only available in stores) // Booties-Target (old, similar)

I loved this look so much from my styling with Versona in Asheville that I had to share a little more. I absolutely love this look. It’s really simple to play up any look that may be intended for dressing up. This skirt was in the dressier section of Versona so I paired it with an oversized, flowy cotton shirt tucking only a portion in. Tucking only a portion in accents the waist and gives a more relaxed, edgy vibe. Since I did color blocking I wanted to add a pop of color without going overboard which is why I opted for neon Navajo inspired necklace. Paired with my favorite black booties gives it even a more relaxed look. Fashion is all about playing around and finding what works for you. If you want to see the other looks I styled with Versona you can do so here!

Also I have two different GIVEAWAYS going at the moment. You can enter to win a $50.00 Amazon gift card package and a Mani/Pedi package in honor of Mother’s Day HERE! You can enter to win a fair trade, ethical mint green necklace perfect for Spring, Mother’s Day or graduation HERE!

Fashion With A Cause + Giveaway

You guys know that I love a company or brand that gives back to artisans and employees or a company that produces it’s products ethically! And I have yet again come across another company that provides jobs in places where job and economic opportunities are sparse, empowers women all over the globe, provides living wages and promotes a better way of life for everyone involved. Noonday Collection is a fair trade organization that partners with artisans around the world to provide a marketplace for their handmade goods.  All artisans are paid a fair wage and are able to work dignified jobs that empower them and the community around them.  They are able to pull themselves out of poverty and create a better tomorrow. And the jewelry isn’t half bad either!

I had the pleasure of meeting Lauren who is an Ambassador for Noonday Collection and was immediately drawn to the collection of curated pieces. The pieces range from statement to subtle, from vivid to organic; so there is a piece for every woman. Each piece is high quality, making it perfect to take with you in every stage of your life. The price point ranges from around $15.00 and up; and let’s be honest some of us have spent more on costume jewelry that tarnishes in a month.

Earrings ($48.00)

The Column Earrings made of brass in Peru by Noonday’s artisans Fermin and Madalyn who work to provide ecomonic opportunities for others in their community by providing jobs in their workshop. These earrings are simple, so great for every day wear but if paired with the right accents can be the right amount of dramatic for a bigger statement.

Necklace ($72.00)

The Nairobi Necklace is made Turkana beads and hand cut brass and handcrafted in Kenya. This piece is my favorite of everything available right now. The cobalt beads are the perfect pop of color and will pair with everything. Since the leaves are made of brass I was expecting it to be heavy, but it’s just as light as a dainty necklace making it the perfect piece for everyday or your go to statement necklace.

Necklace ( $28.00) Earrings ($42.00 )

The Minted Necklace is handmade in Uganda. It is made of handcrafted paperbeads. This necklace is made by the first group that Noonday partnered with, Jalia and Daniel. They went from living in poverty to now employing a large team of artisans. This necklace is perfect for every day and the ideal layering piece. Even though the beads are technically paper, they are great quality! I even wrapped it as a bracelet for a fun layered arm party.
The Fringed Crescent Earrings are made in Haiti of upcycled metal and thread. Noonday’s partners in Haiti have been able to use their wages to improves their lives.  One artisan even used his wages to repair his truck so that he could take the neighborhood kids to school. These earrings are my second favorite thing. Perfect to wear with absolutely anything and a subtle touch of color with the blush thread.
Lauren is an absolutely amazing woman, #GIRLBOSS and honestly one of the kindest people I have met in Asheville.
