Style Inspiration Muses

I get asked on a regular bases who inspires me for my clothing choices. Especially now that I have openly discussed being in a creative rut and verbalizing that I don’t want to look like every blogger or influenster out there. And it’s hard now because it seems like every person is shopping at the same places and styling the exact same pieces. So in times like this a Pinterest search or Instagram search has been unhelpful in helping me find inspiration for fashion this year. So, I decided to go back to my trusty girl crushes who always seem to inspire me and have grounded me in my individuality. And I thought what better time to share the ladies in entertainment that inspire my outfit choices. Even though they have amazing stylist, loans of designer pieces and a full bank account, I think their style is just as attainable as the person you follow along with on Instagram. Not only do all the women I constantly “seek out” for inspiration dress amazingly but promote self confidence, body positivity and being an individual through fashion. All what I am looking for these days.

  1. Florence Welch

The queen of individuality and unique clothing. Flowy fabrics and rockstar silhouettes. Always a go to when I’m in a rut.

2. Adele

Adele can we just be friends already? The first actual plus size women I had for someone to look up to. I think Adele really started the change in the plus size fashion industry. Always amazing, classic pieces and silhouettes and the person who made me think it’s okay to only work with neutrals in my closet (mainly black).

3. Lady GaGa

Gone are the days of insane outfits, insane make up and over the top hair. I think she really found her self and her voice and doesn’t have to hide behind all the “stuff” anymore. And I love it. Simple, rocker chic and letting her shine through. I have been pulling a lot of inspiration from the recent Lady GaGa.

4. Stevie Nicks

IMAGE VIA

The original creator of the gypsy boho chic look. Flowy pieces and pretty much whatever goes, goes. Such a good inspiration. Gimme all the oversized dresses and dramatic sleeves!

5. Danielle Brooks

IMAGE VIA

Another plus size muse doing great things for the plus size fashion industry. Never afraid of something body con or curve hugging, but keeping it simple. All things I can get behind.

6. Tracee Ellis Ross

IMAGE VIA

So real and attainable except when she’s walking the red carpet. She dresses like any of us would. And I love that about her. Plus she created a size inclusiveness line for JC Penny that made me love her more. And she rocks pieces from her line. Which the line was simple capsule wardrobe pieces that any women no matter size, age or style could rock.

Black Hues

Top // Leggings // Sweater-old (similar, similar, similar) // Booties-old (similar) // Short Necklace // Long Necklace (CURRENTLY ON SALE)

So if you are new around here; Hi, my name is Stephanie and I love wearing black! It just works for me, it works for all my activities and is slimming. But sometimes, almost all my black clothes are in the wash together. The best alternative is mixing hues of blacks like greys.

Last weekend when it snowed, by Sunday I *had* to get out. I had to get some sushi and Andrew and I also had a joint freelance meeting. So my go to for meetings is black but I needed to be able to be comfy moving around. Since I shockingly don’t have a swingy black top I opted for this. Currently putting on my notes section to pick up one of these tops from Versona in black. It’s super casual so I opted for some texture and print with an aztec inspired cardigan and fringe booties. When wearing all black I like to add a pop of muted color somewhere. So I added this new Noonday Collection burgandy/rust fringe necklace paired with a choker length necklace.

Perfect for running around and went together easily when I didn’t have my go to black top.

Spring Looks with Versona

Winter layers are my favorite but now that the weather is getting nicer there are a ton of different fun events and activities taking place. So I have partnered up with Versona in Asheville to bring you a few different looks that are perfect for Spring activities.

Prom/Wedding/Date Night at Sunset Terrace

This blue maxi dress is perfect for spring weddings, it would work as a boho style prom dress and perfect for a date night. The dress is great quality has great details, light weight and affordable (only $60.00). I added a metal vine head wrap and a simple beaded necklace to add just a touch more boho to the outfit. If I was headed to prom (or that young again) I would rock this.

Downtown Chic/Festival

The weather is warming up but there is still a chill in the air. So I opted for a halter style tank in taupe paired with a suede fringed vest in a hunter green perfect for shopping downtown, brunching or hitting up the local art or music festival. I added this textured necklace and funky glasses for the perfect pop of Asheville style to the outfit.

Farmer’s Market

Sundays are generally my days for getting as much as possible done. I love going to the farmer’s markets and open air markets when the weather warms up and I love dressing comfortably and unique. I love mixing patterns and this tie dye tank and pinstripe shirt go perfectly together because of the same color scheme. Also I like the fact that each of these could be worn separately for entirely different looks which maximizes your closet and wallet.

Graduation

Graduation season is upon us and the typical color scheme is black and white. Versona has some great black and white dresses and long shirts and nice dress tops but I love adding a little bit of edge and personality to a graduation outfit. Since I will be a college grad in May and going into the fashion and social media industry I wanted to play up the graduation outfit. This outfit is not only a perfect example of color blocking but it lets my personality really shine. The top is flowy and oversized slightly tucked in to the white circle skirt. Funky classes and an over the top neon necklace is the perfect finishes. I paired this with my personal booties to add a little edge to the #ootd. Not only is this perfect for under the gown or for an audience seat but it’s simple and versatile and can be worn many other times. And let me just tell you this necklace is absolutely amazing and it’s only $24.99!

Versona is a great little boutique style store which does offer some styles online but very limited. Luckily, Asheville has it’s very own location in the Asheville Market where the new Whole Foods is at. The store is pretty affordable for the quality you are getting. Most clothing pieces are under $50.00 and great quality, most accessories are under $20.00 with the exception of bags and shoes. Follow Asheville’s Versona on Instagram to see new inventory and follow me to see snaps every now and again about new product!

Mixing Neutral Prints

Mixing Neutral Prints

Does anyone else get in to a fashion funk in the winter? The weather was pretty mild to begin with but now it’s cold and you have to bundle up. I for one know how easy it is to just throw on something for the sake of being warm. But just because you are having to dress warm doesn’t mean you have to lack style. This year I have wanted to challenge myself in my #ootd choices. I have been pulling inspiration from Pinterest and even partaking in a style challenge on Instagram. The style challenge on Instagram which you can find out about here (and you still have time to participate and you can win prizes) has challenged me to look in my closet and pair different things together. I’ve been looking at mixing prints, textures and color palettes to create new and exciting outfits. That’s where this outfit came from. The topic was natural neutrals. I have plenty of neutrals in my closet but I took it a step further by mixing prints. I had never thought about mixing this striped dress with this camo jacket until then. But since both are earthy tones I thought they paired together nicely. It’s nice to explore your closet and try to put together things you might not think about. It’s nice to browse the web and social media for outfit inspiration. It’s fun to try something new in fashion. Where do you get inspiration from for your outfits?

Affordable Fall Fashion Buys

Affordable Fall Fashion Buys

Fall is only 21 days away yet it’s already creeping in, so it’s time to get your closet ready. Fall seems like a fresh start with your wardrobe but it can be a little harder to do on a budget. I have rounded up a few things, all under $50.00 (most under $30.00) to help you add to your fall wardrobe from some affordable fashion stores like Target, H&M, and Old Navy. Also these items which I think are must haves may also help you shop your own closet.

Striped Scarf– This scarf is perfect for transitioning but can be worn through out the season on cooler days. It adds perfect pops of colors and patterns that are popular this season.

Belt– If you don’t usually wear belts this is the season to try it. Belts are popular this season by twisting the belt instead of just plain buckling, giving you shape to over sized and loose clothing and there are extremely affordable to add to your closet (and a must).

Bootie– Booties are still popular this season but more so due to the boyfriend jeans being the jean of the season. These go perfect with jeans cuffed or with dresses. They are so versatile and everyone needs a pair.

T-Shirt Dress– An affordable way to transition to the fall season and yet something you can wear all year. With a simple shape it is easy to add layers for colder days, but it’s also perfect on it’s on. Also with the simple style it can be style many different ways; sneakers for a sporty vibe or worn with a blazer and pumps for work.

Short Coat– It’s not completely time to be investing in a coat but then again it kind of is. I really like this short coat because it reminds me of Mad Men, the color is the perfect white for “after Labor Day” and it could be transitioned easily into your winter wear. Plus this stylish coat is under $50.00

Striped Shirt– Striped shirts are very easy to style and are easy to transition from summer to fall to winter. Stripes are also very versatile so they will fit every style.

Cardigans– Cardigans are a must for fall, not only for warmth but also for simple layers. A cardigan can help you transform summer dresses and tops to fall which is an affordable addition. I like finding neutral cardigans but this year adding an olive color or a purple is a must!

Hat– I have raved about hats for the past year and how much I love them. They are perfect for adding a touch of boho style or fixing a bad hair day. Hats are just one extra touch that takes your #ootd to the next level.

Bag– Large leather (or faux) bags are big for this season, I especially like the leather totes that are bigger so they can fit everything I need into my bag for school days, blogging days and even a night stay somewhere in the mountains.

Tank– These tanks from Old Navy fit perfectly and can be worn by anyone with any style. It’s perfect for days when it may be warmer during the afternoon and also a great base for layering. Even though it’s getting colder doesn’t mean everything has to be bulky and thick. If you are hot natured like I am, tanks are perfect for layering without getting to hot! Plus right now they are only $4.00!.
