Whether you are heading to a wintry, snowed in Valentine’s Day getaway, planning a trip to the cold, live in the mountains or plan to live in the mountains; it’s going to be cold. Maybe not every day, but there are going to be times when it is down right frigid. So I’ve decided to share the greatest tips I’ve learned since living in the mountains to actually brave the cold instead of feeling like you have to be stuck inside when a snow storm comes through or the thermometer reads negative.
- A really good coat is essential. Now the coats that are going to be the best for extremely cold days aren’t going to be the cutest. I recommend a down/insulated jacket with a hood and a longer version to cover more of your leg area. I love mine which was an amazing post Christmas sale and the perfect investment for me to last winters to come and will be perfect for camping as well. I would recommend this coat, this coat or this coat.
- Layers are important. Comfortable layers that is. I’ve worn leggings under jeans this weekend and I’ve also doubled up on my LuLaRoe leggings. My legs are the first thing to get cold. I’ve double up on shirts as well and even wore a cami under the heavy sweater for a tight layer. Layers, layers y’all!
- Wool socks will forever be your friend in frigid temps. I’m not talking the J. Crew camping socks, I’m talking legit wool socks. I picked up some nice wool socks at a local outdoor store and they have been perfect for cold days and even helped my feet survive a chilly camping trip.
- Protect your outer extremities. You might not think about it at first, but when out in the colder temps, your hands and head are the first to get cold. Gloves and hats are a must.
- Snow boots, winter boots or even nice rain boots will save you in the cold, snow and ice. Anything with a rigid sole will help you trek through whatever is on the ground better than a slick sole of your standard boot. I love my bean boots, though not lined, keep my feet warm but better yet they are easy to clean and work well in the snow.
- Not pictured, but sunglasses are a must. Snow blindness is a thing. When the sun is shining on the snow or ice, it makes everything look really white, so grab a pair of sunnies before heading outside to avoid squinting!
I am super simple when it comes to my make up. Even when the holiday events and parties roll around. I can’t do crazy dramatic eyes because I have extremely watery and sensitive eyes. So to avoid a mess and styes I keep it simple every day. I have been loving my Kat Von D palette for eyes and it goes perfect for the holidays as well since that rusty color is very popular. I kept my wing simple since I was going for a more dramatic lip. And by dramatic I mean sparkly. I love playing with make up just as much as the next person so thought I would go for a shimmery lip. I added Bad Blood by Urban Decay and then went over it with this new NYX Lip Of The Day Art Pen in a rose gold. I topped the entire look off with Bardot blush from ColourPop Cosmetics because it gives an equal part glowy goddess, equal part wind kissed cheeks.
So I have recently fallen in love with ColourPop this year. After hearing all the hype I decided I would give it a whirl and fell in love. **Most of the products are vegan (a few products are not), the entire line is cruelty free and all the product is made here in the USA. Plus let me not forget to mention the entire brand is affordable. So you think it might not be great. Nope way wrong. The quality is amazing for the price you pay. The matte lips I have purchased have stayed on longer than any liquid lipstick I own. You can find anyone some goodies from ColourPop for gifts; almost everyone I know is getting something from the brand for Christmas. (SHHH don’t tell)
So I wanted to share the love with all of you. I am giving away a Bardot Super Shock Cheek and a Ultra Matte Lip in Mink from the Blues Baby collection. All you have to do is find the picture below on my Instagram and follow the instructions there:
P.S. It’s really simple to enter! All you have to do is like the picture and follow me!
Also make sure you check back here and Instagram daily because I will be giving away a product from different companies all week!
Happy Glam Holidays!

I like to wear black, it’s really just that simple. A black out #ootd makes me feel chic, pulled together and slimmed down. But sometimes you just need a pop of color. I like to do that with either necklaces or scarves; since it finally felt like Fall in Asheville this weekend a scarf it was. This scarf may remind you of Mardi Gras but the rich jewel tones scream Fall. So I finally got to wear this as it was intended to be worn (it’s been tied around a bag since I bought it). And I love this! Perfect for just about anything, I even wore this to head a planner meetup this Sunday!
Wear what you want! Even if others tell you to wear something else. I get told all the time I need to wear more color. I like black outfits and I’m going to keep wearing black outfits!
So this weekend was finally the weekend I was waiting for, for almost an entire year. Adele released 25 last year, excited was an understatement. The world hadn’t heard from her in such a long time, and as someone who loves her, it was amazing. Then she announced a tour. Now back when she was (attempting) to tour for 21 I attempted to get tickets (as in prayed, refreshed, stood outside when the venue was changed; no avail). Adele tickets literally sell out within the minute of becoming available. So I knew it wasn’t something I couldn’t actually see but still I was hopeful. I said I would be the happiest person if I could get the tickets as a Christmas present. 2 weeks later, SURPRISE! I had no idea Andrew was able to get them, best kept secret.
So this weekend was finally the weekend! For almost a whole year I have counted down, I have anticipated, I have prepped. And it was finally here.
Can I just say the show was a once in a life time experience. Absolutely amazing. I cried, I laughed, I danced, I screamed so much I was horse the next day.
The concert itself was just too good. Girl can bring down the house. And she’s hilarious! One of the best nights of my life!
I decided to go semi tech free during the show kind of last minute. For starters my phone was running low by the time we were actually seated and I decided last minute to kind of savoir the moment, live in it and fully experience. I mean this was a legit experience of a life time and I didn’t want to be worried about recording and snapping. Plus the Phillips Arena is huge and I probably would have accidentally tossed my phone out of excitement. However there are a few shots over on my Instagram that I got towards the end of the show!
So since we stayed in Atlanta for the night, the next day we explored. FYI we stayed at the HYATT Regency and I highly recommend it if you are traveling to Atlanta. Best service, nice rooms, awesome architecture and design and yummy yummy breakfast! Sunday we took in the city views, visited the World of Coca Cola (because who doesn’t want to try cokes from all over the world) and ate at Eats (which you need to visit if you love good soul food). All in all, one of the greats 36 hours of my life!

The season of sweaters, layers and scarves are upon us. But I really think a lot of us under estimate the power of a scarf. A true statement piece that is both functional and transforming.
A scarf can take a simple #ootd and pull the entire look off. Taking something super simple and making it look extremely chic. Isn’t that what we all want out of an outfit anyways?
Sundays are meant for relaxing, brunching and catching up on binging out on Netflix. So naturally simple is better. I threw on this striped top (which I absolutely love the shape of this top and bonus it has stripes) paired with black skinny jeans. Perfect four lounging and getting a few computer things done. But then came time for errands. Sure I could have just walked out with this on but wanted to “spice” it up so threw on this amazing blanket scarf from Charmed (downtown Asheville boutique) and it instantly transformed my entire look. I also swapped out black booties for these camel ones since the scarf has every neutral color known to mankind in it to add some depth to my #ootd. No need for a fussy necklace, because the scarf does the trick.
No matter the style throw a scarf on and go! What are your favorite types of scarves?
I’ll see all you tomorrow to show you what’s in my Fall bag!

I’ve always been a fan of The Gilmore Girls. I grew up on that show. So saying I’m excited about the new 4 part season coming to Netflix later this Fall is an understatement.
I always wanted to find a partner like Luke Danes. I wanted a friend like Lorelai. I wanted to be like Rory. I wanted to live in a place like Stars Hallow. I wanted a love like Luke and Lorelai’s. It was a show that felt more real than anything else I was watching, except maybe the Wonder Years.
This past week of the 16th anniversary of the airing date, I got to live these dreams. Netflix chose 250 coffee shops to participate in transforming in to Luke’s Diner for the day. And luckily Asheville was on that list.
Asheville already feels like Stars Hallow in some aspects, but much larger. It’s cozy and homey, has four seasons that we go all out for and there are inns that put the Independence Inn/Dragonfly Inn to shame. I have a place that is essentially my Luke’s (5 Points). But last week, there really was a Luke’s.
Double D’s downtown transformed in to the cynical, laid back, town center coffee shop for the morning. There was a lot of plaid and baseball caps, a lot of people my age whom I can only guess have a special connection with The Gilmore Girls as I do and pipping hot coffee.
I don’t think I’ve ever seen so many smiles at 8:00 in the morning at a coffee shop. No one complaining about the line. Everyone saying “coffee, coffee, coffee“. Everyone so happy that this was actually happening. It actually felt like Stars Hallow.
I can’t thank Netflix and Double D’s enough for this experience. It took me back to my childhood, on a couch with my mom watching this show. I finally had my Stars Hallow experience and it was pretty great.
If you haven’t ever watched Gilmore Girls (which I highly suggest) you can catch all the seasons on Netflix, to watch for the first time or binge watch and the new series will begin only on Netflix this Black Friday.

I have said it time and time again; I love versatile pieces. It’s very easy to have a closet full of pieces, yet constantly wonder what to wear or what to style together. So that is why I have been more conscious on the pieces I am buying. Neutrals and flattering shapes, yet pieces that can all go together eventually at some point. You get more use out of the pieces in your closet this way and you can save a little money doing this. Who doesn’t love to see their bank account in the positive especially during the height of Fall fashion. ** insert praise hand emoji now**
I also like pieces that can take me through the day by switching minimal pieces out. Because as a busy lady that’s important. I like having an outfit where I can throw an extra piece of clothing in my bag and have a completely different look by switching it out. And this outfit does just that.
For day time jeans, grey sweater and a choker are the perfect go to for me. Simple, comfortable and chic. I can go to work, do errands, teach an art class, just about anything. By adding a simple skirt in my bag (or that magical hanger holder in the car to prevent wrinkling) I am able to switch up the #ootd for a last minute date night, meeting or fashion event. Swapping the choker out for some statement earrings and I’m set.
You can find new Fall pieces that work great for versatility in your closet and are also kind to your wallet at Versona. Their newest Fall Look Book features all the trending items for this season, but even though trendy can work well in any closet. You can view the entire Look Book here and you can also contact your local Versona to make an appointment to view the newest pieces.
The Asheville Versona is full of new Fall pieces. Textures galore. I loved the detail tops, slip dress (didn’t work for me though) and the minimalist necklaces including chokers.

Happy Tuesday friends! I am head over heels with this dress (it’s under $40.00) for several reasons. The print is amazing, it’s comfortable and transitional. I have styled this with chunky sandals for late Summer but when the weather cools off this can be styled several other ways. This would look adorable with riding boots, chic with tights and booties, date night casual with booties or perfect for the holiday season with tights and heels.
I went back and forth on Snap Chat (go add me s.ferguson6623) on whether to buy this dress, which I tend to do on there. Now that I have this baby in my hands I’m glad I did.
Make sure you check back to the blog tomorrow to see what I carry in my Fall ba
