Summer Simplicity

Jewelry & Shirt- In Stores at Versona // Jeans // Sandals (similar) // Hat

I’ve said it since the beginning of the year how my style has changed. It’s changed to something a little more simple. I pick pieces that are simple and versatile. I want to get more bang for my buck, I want to feel more city chic and I want my #ootds to be non-fussy because I’m a pretty simple person. And with the changing of the seasons when neons and tassles are in, that idea still hasn’t changed. I’m still drawn to the same type of pieces, just sleeveless or short sleeves. I’m drawn to a neutral color palette, simple designs and a peplum or boyfriend cut. And I’m loving the idea of boyfriend jeans or cuffed jeans. I’ve literally been cuffing all of my skinny jeans. I like playing with this type of style because for me when it’s not over the top I can use all the things I really love in my closet to go with a new top and get multiple wears out of it. Plus it helps spending on things to “match” with trendy prints or cuts.

Versona in Asheville has some really great basic pieces for a versatile closet. Going a simple, refined route isn’t for everyone’s personal style. But I’m growing on it. It’s about as easy now to get ready as it is making a cup of coffee in my Keurig. And I’m digging that!

Yesterday was the first day of Spring, or at least they say. It had been beautiful here in Asheville then dipped to freezing temps yesterday, there was even some snow showers last night. So I had to pull out the winter wear for what I’m hoping is the last day for a while. Yesterday was all about getting things done for both 30 Shades of Stephanie and school (I have a midterm at 10 and 12 today so keep your fingers crossed for me) and black is generally my go to #ootd for feeling like a #girlboss. What can I say, a black outfit makes me feel a little more powerful. But I just want to talk about this over sized t-shirt I recently found at Target. It’s perfect for wearing in Spring over leggings on it’s on or with a sweater for chilly (or freezing days), it would be perfect with boyfriend jeans for a casual look and would pair nicely with shorts for a fun summer look. And that’s what I look for when I’m shopping for pieces to add to my closet, even if they are very affordable. I hope all of you had a great first day of Spring!

Sweater-Target (can get all sweaters 10% off with cartwheel app this week) // Scarf-c/o Dottie Q

It’s officially scarf season! And anyone who knows me, knows I love scarfs. I will wear them year round but love chunky knits for fall and winter. Yes, I love scarfs because they keep me warm, but I also love scarfs because they are easy to throw on with any outfit and take the outfit a little further. Throwing on a scarf over a sweater (chunky or not) makes the whole #ootd just a little more chic. With scarves you have endless possibilities. They come in different patterns, materials and most of them can be styled several different ways.

I have fallen in love with scarves from Dottie Q. Not only are they in beautiful knits, but the colors are just perfect. I love this grass color that I have since green is every where for Fall fashion. Of course you can get your regular style infinity scarf from Dottie Q but she offers something a little more exciting, a scarf necklace. This scarf (styled above) can be worn several different ways; we all know I love something that can be styled numerous ways. The scarf can be worn long with the wrap part at the nape of the neck or showing for a textural view. The scarf can be worn layered just like you would a necklace. You can take half of the scarf and loop it around your neck. Wearing the scarf long and layered actually allows for you to wear necklaces for an even more layered and textural look. Or you can double the whole scarf for a bundled up look. The possibilities are endless with this scarf.

Dottie Q scarves are all handmade and available on Etsy or on her website. She also offers boot socks and hand muffs. All of her pieces are as eco-friendly as possible, and she uses recycled mailing supplies. The best part of this shop; Dottie Q donates a percentage to Tenth Life Cat Rescue in St. Louis. You know that appealed to the cat lover in me!

Dress- Forever 21 (old, similar) // Flannel-Target // Hat-Target // Necklace-Forever 21 (old) // Boots-Charlotte Russe (old, similar)

I don’t know what I love about this #ootd more. The floral dress? The hat? The flannel? The mixing of unusual prints to make an outfit I love? Fashion is supposed to be fun. And I think this outfit of the day is pretty fun. The lumberjack trend, or flannel is once again very popular. I have to be very careful not to look like a man while styling flannel because most cuts are not flattering to the female body. So the perfect way to style it for me is to throw it over a dress, especially a floral dress. The combo reminds me of the 90’s trend but is also pulled together. To make the outfit a little more “grown up” I added some simple riding boots and a hat. This chic look is somewhat of a style risk but so easy to pull off!

What style risks are you taking this Fall?

Poncho Sweater- TJ Maxx (in store) // Jeans-Old Navy (old, similar) // Boots-Charlotte Russe (old, similar)

Just because the days are getting shorter and colder doesn’t mean date days or nights have to go away. I think when the weather cools down there are actually a lot of fun things to do for dates (I have a few ideas here). Unless I am hitting up a cool restaurant downtown or attending something a little more formal, I tend to keep date outfits a little more casual in the Fall. Comfort and being warm are more key to me for dates at a coffee shop, a casual dinner, a stroll through downtown or checking out a local haunting adventure. Ponchos are huge this season and can instantly add warmth and a little bit of chic to your #ootn. The prints, textures and different fabrics the ponchos come in make the options endless. You can find ponchos just about everywhere and can find them for just about every price point. Wal-Mart even has some stylish ponchos for under $15.00. When I saw this poncho sweater at TJ Maxx (for $13.00) I knew it would be perfect for cooler nights when I want to be both comfortable and warm but still look on trend. Pairing ponchos with pops of fall colored denim and riding boots makes the #ootd just a little more casual. Make sure you head and check out A Day in the Life of One Girl, and how Jessica dresses up for Fall date night.

Now for the reason you are all here! I have teamed up with Jessica from A Day in the Life of One Girl, LaZoom and Pin Head’s Graveyard to bring you the ultimate Halloween/Spooky/Horror date night package. Dress-Target // Kimono-Target (sold out) // Leggings-Forever 21 // Boots-Charlotte Russe (old, similar)

I can’t believe yesterday it was extremely hot and for the next few days we are expecting bad storms. I can’t believe today is the first day of October. This swing dress has been on repeat quite a bit lately because it is the perfect transitional piece. And there’s nothing I love more than a stripes and floral combo. I have been keeping my darker floral printed pieces (mostly kimonos) around for layering this fall. Just because the leaves are starting to die there are still some flowers that thrive in the cooler months. So why not continue to wear floral? Floral is really easy to pull off during these chillier days as long as the print is darker or muted hues. Throw on some leggings and boots and it makes the entire #ootd a little bit better for Fall.

Are you still wearing florals?.

Versona had their grand opening this past weekend in the Asheville Market! The boutique style store has a great selection of everything; shoes, bags, jewelry and clothes. Since it is boutique style they only have limited quantities of everything so if you see something you like you should snatch it up because once a size is gone they aren’t getting that back but will replace it with something new and exciting. The price points for Versona are perfect; anywhere between $10-$50.00 but most clothes coming in at the $30.00 range. Don’t let the prices fool you because the quality of the fabrics and seams are great. The store is filled with something for every style from dresses, to business casual, to stylish to extremely casual. They also have accessories to go with absolutely everything they carry and more.

The staff at the new Asheville location is very friendly and helpful in the fact they are helping you find something you feel great with rather than pushing the sale.

I highly recommend heading to the Asheville Market to see the newest Versona location and get some shopping done!

Stay posted for later this week to show you what I got during the grand opening celebration..

Asheville Outlets Looks For Less Fashion Challenge

This week has been very exciting, I was asked to compete in the Looks for Less Fashion Bloggers Challenge from the Asheville Outlets! Management gave me $100.00 to pick out an outfit for the back to school/Fall season. After going through almost all of the clothing stores at the outlet I think I came up with the perfect outfit for back to school, the stylish working girl or someone who just wants to add to their fall wardrobe. Since I am personally on a budget (and I know a lot of you are) I wanted to show just how far your dollar can go at the Asheville Outlets. I picked out pieces that could be mixed and matched with each other for a few different looks but could also be added with pieces you already own or affordable extras! I did go a little over budget but I got everything pictured for right under $108.00.

I went for a tomboy chic with this look. I went with this skirt from the Gap Outlet because it’s very comfortable and the rouching on the side is perfect for all body types. Paired with this striped shirt, a letterman style jacket, a dainty bracelet and a punch of leopard in the flats this is perfect for casual Friday, can easily be taken from work to play and is great for the girl who wants to dress up for class but isn’t wanting something extremely feminine.

Taking my shirt from look one and pairing it over a floral dress is the perfect way to get an extra look out of two pieces. Plus it’s interesting with the mixing of patterns! This “hipster chic” look is pulled together with a beanie, a tribal inspired necklace and the same leopard flats from the first look.

If you can’t pull yourself to mixing that many prints, the dress by it’s self with the leopard print shoes (you can literally add leopard print to anything and it will go) is adorable and sends a playful vibe. For chilly days in class or the office this jacket pairs very nice with this dress for an even more casual look.

The great thing about all of the pieces I picked up can easily be mixed with other pieces to create various other looks!

I love finding stylish clothing at an affordable price and things that can make my wardrobe go a little further!

I had so much fun shopping at the Asheville Outlets but I did say this was a competition so here is where I need your help. Next week the outlets will be posting images of each competing bloggers look on their Facebook page. Whichever blogger gets the most likes will win a $250.00 shopping spree to the Asheville Outlets! I would love to win this (and if I win there might be a little giveaway)! All you have to do is “LIKE” Asheville Outlets Facebook Page, check for my picture when it is posted then “Like” it! I will try to repost this once my picture has been posted!

Dressing For Success

Button Up-Old Navy // Sweater-Thrifted // Jeans-Old Navy // Riding Boots-old, similar // Necklace-Mindy Mae’s Market

We often times think that when we have to dress professionally for any reason we have to forfeit style. I think we think this to outdated power suits, the thought of pantyhose and matchy matchy outfits; but in reality this isn’t the case. If you are someone that has meetings or has to dress business casual at work, I think you need to have these two key pieces in your closet; a pair of really good dark jeans and a nice button up. I really like the variety of each that Old Navy offers at affordable prices. With these you can do a lot and make your business wardrobe go further. I have had a few meetings myself this week and thought I would share by favorite way to dress up those key pieces. Layering a cardigan over the button up makes it feel less stuffy, it also provides layers if you need warmth and you can pick fun colors to go with your style personality. I like to roll the sleeves up for an extra amount of relaxation. There are plenty of shoes that could go with your dark jeans but by adding riding boots it adds some youthfulness to the #ootd. Then add some jewelry that fits your style and that spices up the outfit a bit and you have a pulled together casual business outfit!.
