DIY HOLIDAY: MODERN CHRISTMAS WREATH

If you can’t tell I have an obsession with these metal hoops that are used for floral arrangements. There are just so many uses for them. Even a modern floral wreath. I have been on the hunt for a wreath for my front door but haven’t found one I really like or one that is even affordable. $60.00 for a wreath seems a bit crazy to me even if you can use it year after year. So to get one just the way I wanted it I decided to make my own. And it’s so easy and affordable you can make your own.

These are perfect for the holidays, home decor and for year round decorations. I decided to go extremely modern and just do green and white as my color palette. This makes this easy to hang on my door for Christmas and I can also bring it in and hang it in my room or closet after the holidays are over.

WHAT YOU WILL NEED:

METAL WREATH HOOP

FLOWERS AND GREENERY OF YOUR CHOOSING (I WENT WITH JUST BASIC WHITE AND GREEN)

SCISSORS

WIRE

POSSIBLY A HOT GLUE GUN

To make this wreath start by cutting all your stems and flowers. Then start wrapping and forming to the metal hoop. You can start by attaching with wire. You can continue with wire or use a hot glue gun after you get your base started. There is no exact science to the wreath. You get to just build up the flowers the way you would like and put them on there. Once you get everything on there the way you would like, you are ready to hang up. Pretty easy and hardly takes any time.

The great thing about this is you get to do your wreath any way you like.

Happy wreath making!

DIY HOLIDAY: WALL HANGING

Wall hangings are all the rage right now. Especially if you are in to the bohemian decor. But with options available at Urban Outfitters and Anthropology, they are pricey. And a surprising fact, if you aren’t doing any weaving or macrame these cute pieces of wall art are extremely easy and affordable to make. No class needed for these babes.

You Will Need:

Yarn- can do multiple colors and different textures

Scissors

Wreath Hoops, rods or wood for the hanging device

You can add feathers, beads or wire accents

With all of my materials and coupons from Michaels, I was able to buy enough materials for two wall hangings for $15.00!

You will cute your yarn to desired length and start tying around your hanging device. You can do each piece or do groups of the yarn for a thicker knot. The easiest knot for this wall hanging is a Lark’s Head Knot.

Keep cutting and knotting to create any kind of design you would like. The great thing about the hoop is you can easily move your knotted sections to get the type of design you would like.

Once you get your yarn in the position you like now you can add any feathers, wire or beads to add some extra texture or fun to your piece. At this point you would also want to cut your ends the way you would like. Any way will work or you can leave it messy. Either way you choose it still looks great.

Now you are ready for gifting or hanging it in your space for yourself. Super easy and super affordable. Plus you will get a good relaxing creative hour out of this project. I also have a few more ideas linked on my Pinterest that are great ideas for your wall hanging.

If you decide to make your own, snap a picture and tag me on Instagram!

Gift Guide For Experiences Instead of “Things”

We all know someone who literally has everything they need and want. So what do you get those people for a Christmas gift? With a world full of so many things, why not gift experiences. A great option that keeps on giving after Christmas Day and after the newness of a present wears off. Here are the options that I have come up with that would make great experiences!

Admission To Fun Activities

Gift a one-time ticket to any where your recipient loves to visit. Or some where the person may want to visit, but a little out of their price range. Museums, exhibits, the zoo, amusement parks, or local attractions. Or even a certificate for a massage for a day. I know I personally love visiting art exhibits, museums and amusement parks. These places always make for a great day.

 Food Experiences

Gifting cooking lessons isn’t saying that the person you love is a horrible cook. This would be such a fun experience. The ability to try foods you might not otherwise try to cook and learning to appreciate the process of cooking and the experience of eating the meal. I’ve been dying to try some of the classes that Hickory Nut Gap Farm offers. It seems enticing to try something I could never do in my own kitchen. If classes are not available or just perfect for the person you are gifting, try gifting a gift card to a restaurant the person has been wanting to try, their favorite place or something that may be out of their element.

Lessons To Learn Something New

Something you know someone has always wanted to try? Whether it be a new language, an art class or advancing on their hobbies.

Tickets To One Time Events

Think sporting events, concerts, plays, ballet and musicals. I have received tickets for shows, games and the ballet for several different holidays and they have been amazing. I’ve had to wait until the actual events and the excitement has only built. The only downside to this is that you have to choose a date for it, but most tickets you can get in enough advance that someone can plan for this event.

Getaways and Travel

In order to do this you must really know the person you are doing this for. You have to know where they would love to travel to, where they would love to stay and when would be a good time to book the trip. It doesn’t have to be a grand vacation. It could be a weekend getaway or a night away. Sometimes it’s just fun and exciting to get away from home for a while. This past year for my birthday, Andrew gifted me with a trip to Chattanooga. It was only for a night but it was amazing. And totally worth the drive.

Camping Adventure

If someone can handle a night or weekend away without staying in a hotel I highly suggest the gift of camping. To be one with nature, no cell service, to be in silence, sleep under the stars; all amazing things and can do wonder for your health. I have gifted this adventure before and though I got a kink in my neck, had to shower with shoes on and got extremely cold at night, nothing beats bourbon under the stars by a fire. Or how peaceful I felt.

Season Passes To Favorite Places

A gift that lasts for a whole year. A pass to someone’s favorite place or even just an extremely fun place which they can use over and over again for a year! I have annual passes to the Biltmore Estate and think they are well worth the investment. Most places it is cheaper than two visits. You can get them to just about anywhere that requires an admission fee. From the national park services to amusement parks to local area attractions. I have gifted amusement park passes before and were a huge hit. Plus it was a gift that kept on giving all Summer long. I would actually love to get annual passes to Grandfather Mountain!

Hopefully this got you thinking about gift giving in a different way. Go explore fun things that you can give to your loved ones that won’t be shoved in a drawer soon.

Another day, another blogger’s gift guide. However, I wanted to do something a little different. There’s no point in sharing silly things I know none of us will really use or overpriced gift sets that really aren’t worth the money. Or sharing the same things you have seen on every other blog. Gifts you will actually love to give, that your recipient will love or that you would actually love to get. All things you can actually use, most right after opening. From new brands I have discovered and am swooning over to brands I stand by. And something for everyone. Whether it be your fashionista, chef, homebody, explorer, the one who loves to savor moments and the one possibly obsessed with textiles. It’s all here and the best part, everything in the gift guide is under $100.00!

Happy Shopping! Happy Gifting! And happy Wishlist making!

I hate to be the Grinch, but I really have been lately. I put my tree up before Thanksgiving because I was in the spirit (plus let’s face it I knew I wouldn’t have time), I had Christmas music blaring on Thanksgiving, I have all my presents bought and am in the process of wrapping. But I haven’t been in the mood. I have cried because I love Christmas and it just doesn’t feel right (cue this Christmas song). Life and mother nature have both got in the way. My heart has been broken by the tragic fires throughout WNC and Eastern TN so when it rained I did a happy dance, but also cried because I needed blog pictures for the week and couldn’t get them. Some things have happened in work and there is the possibility of receiving a promotion so I have been killing myself trying to prove myself. I’ve literally worked and slept. On Wednesday I didn’t even eat all day because I worked a long shift, forgot lunch and passed out hardcore when I got home.

But it changed on Thursday. Andrew and I normally do a secret santa situation for a child in need, but this year the opportunity hit closer than we thought. A former coworker was in need. We decided to help this individual other than someone we don’t actually know. It’s the first day in almost a week and a half I put on clothes that weren’t jeans and work shirts, put on make up and actually fixed my hair. Oh it was photo worthy because I hadn’t seen myself like this in a while. Maybe it’s because I finally felt festive, or maybe because I was heading to Target.

A giving heart is always stylish and something every person, even the #fashionistas need to have. I got in the spirit. So as planned for this week, but dampened by the rain and lack of photos, I will be doing a week of giveaways on the blog from some awesome boutiques and companies. Because I truly want to give back to you guys!

Gift Guide: For The Homebody

Gift Guide: For The Homebody

We all have that one friend, family member or coworker who likes to stay home a majority of the time. Cough, cough, cough; me! These people may be a little hard to shop for, especially if you want your gift to be unique. I’ve rounded up my favorite items for the home that are drool worthy, Instagram worthy and under $75.00. These are gifts your homebody is sure to love. From unique cookbooks, to art (yay to shopping small), funky dishes in the most popular print this year and items to make the home cozy!

Gift Guide: For the Fashionista

Gift Guide: For the Fashionista

Ahhhh! Finally the first gift guide of the season. Shopping for the #fashionista in your life can be hard. She seems like she always looks flawless so you want your gift to be just as great. So I have rounded up my top 9 picks under $75.00 and under that are the perfect gift besides her typical clothing gifts.

  1. Moon & Stars EarringsBaubleBar has some of the best statement pieces for any style! Plus the affordability is perfect for gift giving. I love these earrings and could be styled numerous different ways. Could be edgy, dark or glam! I have officially added these to my Black Friday shopping list 😉
  2. Cosmetic Bag– What girl doesn’t love to see designer leather underneath the Christmas tree, especially a #fashionista? To make a big impact but on a smaller budget, this Coach cosmetic bag is a perfect gift idea. We girls have a ton of stuff in our bags, so it even works for the #fashionista who keeps her make up of the day minimal! I also love picking out a black leather option as it goes with everything.
  3. Quay Sunglasses– Just because it’s winter doesn’t mean the shades get put away with the tank tops! I love Quay sunglasses and most of the shapes are funky yet flattering on most face shapes.
  4. Fashion Illustration– When you are at a loss for what to get your fashionista gal pal or family member because you are afraid you might get something that isn’t her particular style, fashion illustrations are great! Fashion in it’s self is art, so a fashionable piece of art is a great gift! You can find fashion illustrations anywhere online, in a ton of different styles and price ranges. Plus it will look great on her Instagram!
  5. Robe– The best part about a fashionista’s look is the actual process in putting it together. The best part is the creating process in the way she styles everything and creates the look she wants the world to see. Some of the time it’s a lengthy process. Robes make a great gift because the getting ready process is a fun process and she should still feel stylish during the process.
  6. R + CO Outer Space Hair Spray– I have been wanting to try out this product for a really long time and at my recent hair appointment I was finally able too. The entire R+CO line is dreamy but this hairspray is out of this world (no pun intended). It has a great hold without that crunchy, sticky feeling. It also smells amazing. Any girl who fixes her hair on a daily basis needs to try this at least once. It’s a bit pricey for hairspray (but oh so worth it) so if your fashionista may not splurge on an item like this for herself, gift it to her; she will be forever thankful!
  7. Kat Von D Eye Shadow Palette– Kat Von D eyeshadows (any of her make up for that matter) goes on like a dream. Extremely blendable and a perfect starter kit. Great for the pro or someone wanted to expand her make up techniques. Plus the entire Kat Von D beauty line is creulty free and great for sensitive skin! I got this specific palette for my birthday and think it was the best choice I’ve ever made.
  8. Colour Pop Lip Products– Colour Pop has a wide range of lip products for any beauty loving girl. Whether she likes glossy lips or matte lips, Colour Pop has an option. Plus their color selection is out of this world; from nudes, to pretty pinks to the darkest berries and funky colors! Most of their lip products are cruelty free!
  9. Furry Clutch– This Who What Wear Collection collection is #goals! I love it and it’s amazing in both the blush and black color! Perfect present to add a little extra luxe or funk to any fashion girl’s #ootd. Also this is a perfect alternative to a sparkly clutch for NYE!

Top // Jeans // Booties (similar) // Earrings // Hair Clip (in stores only at Versona)

I honestly can’t believe next Thursday is Thanksgiving! How is this even possible?

So I start thinking about the holidays and how my wardrobe will work for the holidays early on. Probably when Fall fashion starts hitting the shelves. I’m not the hugest sparkle fan (even though you will be seeing a fun skirt soon) so it’s ok for me to start looking early. A few things come to mind. First off I want to be stylish because I’m known as the fashion blogger in the family and because I know pictures are going to be taken if I’m not planning on them. But then there are a few other things to keep in mind but mainly is it comfortable. I mean there is a lot of cooking, a lot of relaxing, a lot of running around and then there is a lot of eating.

So when I saw this blouse at Target I knew it was the perfect thing to wear to Thanksgiving dinner! It screams fall, the color is perfect for Thanksgiving, it’s flowy and it has some awesome detailing. I was sold! I’ve decided to pair it with distressed denim and booties for a casual, comfortable yet chic look. I’m going to go ahead and call this my sophisticated pilgrim #ootd.

Artistically Wrapped Presents

It’s officially that time of year y’all! The holidays. I’m currently listening to Christmas music as I’m writing this and I have already put up my Christmas tree. I’ve even got some presents bought. What else can I say? I’m actually in the spirit this year, for the first time in a while (probably because I’m not stressing about finals and registering for new classes). So this year for my tree and present theme I am going for black, red, metallics and craft paper. But y’all, it’s hard to find a fun red and black wrapping paper that isn’t buffalo plaid (which I did pick up). So I decided to get creative. And make my own abstract paper.

So to make your own paper you will need:

Packaging paper or craft paper

Paint of your choices

Paint brush

Cup of Water

Bowl, plate, palette paper for your paint

11-29

Also you are going to want to do this outside because it might just get messy.

You want to thin down your paint if you are doing an abstract splatter version like I did.

11-3411-3111-30

Then just do whatever you would like. I’m actually wrapping up a painting so I channeled my inner Jackson Pollock and did a splatter design. I just get watered down paint on the brush and tap the brush for splatter designs.

My end version looked like this:

11-33

You are going to want to let this dry for a while until the paint is completely dry to the touch. You can use a hairdryer to speed up the process if you wish. You can also let it sit over night before using it to wrap your gift with. I recommend cutting off the size you will need for your gift.

For the wrapping you will need:

Scissors

Tape

Festive ribbon

11-32

And here is the final result!

11-3611-3511-37

I think presentation is almost as important as the actual gift you are giving. This look would also be really cute done with stamps as well. This is time consuming but like I just stated it’s all about the presentation. Plus there is now some personality to the package! Happy wrapping!
