DIY HOLIDAY: WALL HANGING

Wall hangings are all the rage right now. Especially if you are in to the bohemian decor. But with options available at Urban Outfitters and Anthropology, they are pricey. And a surprising fact, if you aren’t doing any weaving or macrame these cute pieces of wall art are extremely easy and affordable to make. No class needed for these babes.

You Will Need:

Yarn- can do multiple colors and different textures

Scissors

Wreath Hoops, rods or wood for the hanging device

You can add feathers, beads or wire accents

With all of my materials and coupons from Michaels, I was able to buy enough materials for two wall hangings for $15.00!

You will cute your yarn to desired length and start tying around your hanging device. You can do each piece or do groups of the yarn for a thicker knot. The easiest knot for this wall hanging is a Lark’s Head Knot.

Keep cutting and knotting to create any kind of design you would like. The great thing about the hoop is you can easily move your knotted sections to get the type of design you would like.

Once you get your yarn in the position you like now you can add any feathers, wire or beads to add some extra texture or fun to your piece. At this point you would also want to cut your ends the way you would like. Any way will work or you can leave it messy. Either way you choose it still looks great.

Now you are ready for gifting or hanging it in your space for yourself. Super easy and super affordable. Plus you will get a good relaxing creative hour out of this project. I also have a few more ideas linked on my Pinterest that are great ideas for your wall hanging.

What’s not to love about this outfit. When I picked up this vest I wasn’t exactly sure how it was going to play out in my wardrobe but I knew it was would be a great layering piece for that city chic fashion intern look I was going for. I love the masculine details in this vest and when getting dressed for this day the entire #ootd kind of just fell together. The boyfriend jeans, boxy shirt and utility vest, especially the dark green color scream masculine but when paired with fun accessories it makes the perfect pair of masculine and feminine. I love everything about this outfit. From the stripes, the sandals, my custom leather bag, funky sunnies and the boho jewelry. This might just be one of my new favorite outfits that I have put together. And I feel SASSY AF in this!

Coachella Inspired

For the past two weekends all I have seen on social media are posts from Coachella and of course I’m a little jealous because I’m here in Asheville working and doing homework. So on Sunday when I had to run out and do some errands for a few projects I decided to bring Coachella with me in my #ootd minus faux body tattoos and floral crowns. This boyfriend top from Old Navy is the perfect basic piece to build up a boho look due to the shape. So I paired it with some DIY cutoffs for a little more festival flare. The finishing touches were the side braid and hat (but let’s be honest it was to disguise my dirty hair), neon tribal necklace, layered rings and booties. Then I jammed to Ellie Goulding in the car so in my mind it was kind of like the first weekend of Coachella minus the desert and all the famous people! I hope you all have a great start to the week!

Don’t forget currently A Day in the Life of One Girl and I are hosting an awesome Mother’s Day Giveaway where you could enter to win a $50.00 gift card to Amazon or an Asheville mani and pedi along with some other fun goodies. You only have until Saturday to enter and you can enter HERE!

I have also partnered up with Lauren from Noonday Collection and we are giving away The Minted Necklace to one lucky reader. This is also perfect for Mother’s Day, graduation or just a pop of Spring color to your wardrobe! You also only have until Saturday to enter and you can do so HERE!

The Art of Layering

Fall is just 11 days away and it’s slowly starting to cool down (mostly in the mornings and in the evenings) so finding something that goes from day to night is a must. The perfect piece for this type of weather is a dress because it’s extremely easy to layer with it and dresses work for office, school or errands and can be easily extended to a night #ootd. When I want to stretch my outfit I start with a simple, yet flatter dress like this grey dress from Old Navy (plus it’s only $18.00) then add versatile jewelry and shoes. To extend the outfit a little further I have layered necklaces and rings that can easily be taken off if too much for day time. Packed to layer I have a hat, skimono and belt. Simply add the skimono (or kimono or leight weight scarf) and tie with a belt. Easily this simple dress is transformed to entire different outfit with two pieces!

When shopping for colder weather items, in order to save some money I look for items that can easily be “layered” with other pieces to create different looks. This is a very affordable way to add something fresh to your fall wardrobe.

Layering is really easy to do and really there is no wrong way to do it. I always like to layer and still create a waistline. Belts are a great item to have for layers and work great for scarfs, skimonos, ponchos, cardigans and over sized shirts.

Music festivals, adventuring in the mountains and diner visits call for a maxi skirt. So versatile, comfortable and perfect for the heat. I really just can’t get out of flowy fabrics right now! Maxi skirts are so easy to style, can easily be dressed up or down and are perfect for transitioning into Fall fashion. I love the printed maxi skirts that are available at Target right now. The printed skirts add to the boho style I am currently in love with (and don’t see it fading).

Earthy Tones + Palazzo Pants

With fall approaching fast, and stores clearing out their summer product, I have been more inclined to begin wearing neutral colors that are easy to transition from summer to fall fashion. Also the weather in Asheville is very reminiscent of fall, it’s warm in the days and starting to cool off at night. Palazzo pants are perfect for the weather right now especially paired with a burnt mustard color top. These pants are very light weight, flowy and comfortable enough to withstand the last of summer heat but since they are pants perfect for the chill in the air. I picked up this tribal print pair at Target and thought it would be perfect with earthy toned everything. I went with a mustard colored shirt (perfect for transition into fall) and a turquoise stone necklace. The perfect combo for the bohemian vibe.

By buying t-shirts it is a very affordable way to make your wardrobe budget friendly for transitioning into a different season. You can easily add layers on top of a basic shirt, and it is very easy to dress up or down. T-shirts are hardly ever more than $12.00 and a staple in my closet for the shifting seasons!

This past weekend was my birthday so to celebrate I had dinner at Cedric’s Tavern at the Biltmore Estate! Thank you for all of you that shared love with me on my special day!

Don’t forget I have a giveaway going on on my Instagram and today is the last chance to enter to win a foot repair stick gifted my Julie Bee’s!

Kimono Love

I have been in love with kimonos since last fall and just can not quite get away from them. They are so popular and perfect for the boho or rocker chic style. You can find them just about everywhere and come in a variety of styles. I’m pretty sure the kimono is becoming the new cardigan and blazer. They are so easy to wear, just throw them on over an outfit to transform it; I even like wearing mine around the house to cover up bare shoulders.

Do you own a kimono?.

Key elements to this look: floppy hat, comfortable pants and top, riding boots, an oversized cardigan or kimono.

The last days of September are perfect for chilly weather in the morning and night but in the day can be a little warmer (still under 80 though). So it’s a perfect time to hit up the Farmers Market for the last of the seasonal produce for a farm to table dinner! These leggings and kimono are perfect for running around town. It’s such a boho vibe (which is out of my element but thought I’d try it) and I absolutely love this. This will be my go to outfit before it gets to cool for running and picking up more art supplies, running my midterms off in the mail, and doing some shopping at local boutiques and Trader Joes and the new Whole Foods.

If the weather switches completely on you, or when it cools off and your still out and about, add a fun printed jacket or cardigan! I love this camo jacket I got from Old Navy and it’s also something perfect for running around in. Also if you don’t like the boho look above, this look below is exactly the same but one layer is changed and it’s totally different chic look. How will you be playing with styles this Fall?
