Two Affordable Restaurants in Asheville For Rent Week

It’s creeping around the weekend, rent is coming due. And if you live in Asheville you know how much of a stress giver, headache and drain on your bank account that can be. It also sucks even more if you are like me and most of my bills are due the last week and first week of the month. A fun two weeks of paying bills, paying bills. Whether you have a roommate, live with a SO or by yourself I know it’s hard and I understand the hustle. But we still got to eat. Sure there are some great affordable finds at Trader Joe’s and Aldi; and there are some great recipes for serious budgets, but sometimes you have to go out to keep your sanity in this dog eat dog world. Even if you are broke. So I’ve come up with two restaurants in Asheville that have an entire full affordable menu perfect for solo meals, splitting meals, date night or the just I’m tired of eating ramen meal!

DEL VECCHIOS

Del Vecchios is a newer Italian eatery in Asheville and really new to me. It’s a smaller restaurant on Merrimon Avenue with major cafe vibes, it’s small and quaint so perfect for solo dining when you don’t want to cook or perfect for a date or even a meal with your girlfriends. Offering pizzas, subs, salads and these delicious fries it earns the spot in one of my two affordable restaurants. All of their sandwiches and pasta dishes are under $10.00 and large enough portions to share or eat half there and half for left overs. Ohhhh and these garlic Parmesan fries are to die for and you get a huge serving for $5.99. Two people dined here both with entrees and these fries, plus tip for $30.00; plus we both had lunch for the next day. For Asheville this is a cheap meal. We could have gotten out cheaper because we had never eaten there before and could have shared. Ohhhh and did I mention the service is absolutely amazing! And I’ve heard their pizza is off the chain!

TAQUERIA MUNOZ

Taqueria Munoz is one of my favorite affordable Asheville eats. Literally everything on the menu is under $7.50 and who doesn’t love a good taco shop. This place is authentic and worth the trek to West Asheville. The tacos are huge portions and you can get anything from tongue meat to pork or chicken. And the best part is each taco is $2.50. And it’s no lie when I say I can’t eat two full tacos. There is that much meat on there. But they also serve other yumminess like tortas, soups and meals. I have only braved to try the tacos and tortas because when I say it’s authentic, it’s legit. I have gotten enough courage to try tongue and head meat tacos. Too good. And don’t judge it before you try. Budget friendly and leaving me in a food coma. Count me in! But take cash, because that’s all they accept there.

Ladies and Gents, it’s tough out there and rent is due on Monday! Let’s make the most out of living in our crazy over priced town!

Leggings (WIN YOUR OWN LULAROE LEGGINGS HERE) // Top // Bag // Booties (similar) // Scarf & Necklace // Sunnies

I recently said last week, when I get dressed my #ootd isn’t magical or a break through concept. It’s really simple generally. I live in black leggings (or jeans). Typically 4 times a week you can find me throwing on leggings for absolutely anything from running errands, to cleaning, to exploring, to lounging or wearing them to work. But sometimes with the simplicity of my outfits I want to spice them up for coffee dates, shopping, date night or lunch. And it’s really simple to do when you have a simple palette.

Stripes are a go to. So this #ootd was a no brainer. Black leggings and a black and white striped shirt; a simple and chic (thanks to the tanks neck line) outfit. But by adding a fun high neck/tassel necklace, booties, funky glasses and tying a scarf to my bag the whole outfit is transformed. I feel more pulled together. I feel more chic. I feel like I look like I actually took a lot of time to plan this, but in reality it took about an extra two minutes.

I love having a wardrobe with as much versatility as mine. I love having a ton of black leggings that I can style numerous ways. I also love having stores in downtown that are affordable enough to have a few extras to take a simple, chic #ootd to an extra special chic outfit. And that’s exactly what I found at Lou Lou Boutiques in downtown.

I recently went to the grand opening of their newest location downtown and immediately fell in love. A whole store dedicated to accessories. Perfect for picking up a few pieces that you can incorporate in to any wardrobe to take it to the next level. The store was fully of trendy jewelry pieces, scarves out the whazoo and handbags. Lou Lou Boutiques is pretty affordable with most pieces pricing under $40.00 besides larger bags and some bigger brand name pieces. I left the store regretting not getting a few other pieces but I’ll save those for another day. I picked up this necklace, which I’ve already worn numerous times and it’s perfect due to the black and gold and makes me feel a little unique with the style. I also picked up this scarf and since we are still in the humid Summer days for now I’m wearing it tied around bags, but it will also be perfect in the Fall to add some pop of color to a simple outfit.

The staff was great and friendly, knowledgeable and made you feel like you were hanging out in your closest girlfriend’s closet. Brownie points for that because when I shop alone I hate the feeling of being in silence and not being able to ask for advice. These girls are a great and stylish staff. The boutique had something for everyone’s style and a price point suitable for everyone. I highly recommend checking it out! Here’s a bunch of pictures I snapped at the Grand Opening to tide you over until you visit!

Tulle and Leather

Entire Outfit-Versona (in stores)

I know I have been sharing a lot of black and white outfits lately, but I’ve been testing ideas for a few final presentations, portfolio pictures and a graduation celebration. So I have been pairing a lot of black and white together. I already love black anyways. But with each outfit that I’ve been planning I am constantly playing with textures and prints. So with this #ootd I played with the tulle texture of the skirt, pairing it with a casual cotton shirt, suede and leather flats and finally topping it off with a mixed textured necklace. This pop of burgandy leather cording and brass beads is the perfect boho addition to this dressed up outfit. By also choosing the necklace in different color it adds a fun element that not only shows my personality but breaks of the professionalism of the black and white outfit.

If you haven’t been over to Versona in Asheville market, I highly recommend it. I love it. They have so many trendy, yet quality pieces. It’s boutique style on a budget.

Boyfriend’s Closet

Top // Jeans // Sandals // Necklace (gifted) // Similar Hat // Sunnies

No I didn’t not get dressed from my boyfriends closet but I did finally cave on the boyfriend jean trend. And ahhh I’m so gad I did. These jeans are the best. They aren’t uncomfortable like a lot of jeans are and the loose fit is perfect for casual days. I even went as far as wearing a boyfriend shaped shirt in the fact that it is loose everywhere. In order to wear this look and not look like a total frump is by adding feminine details like the chunky sandals I paired with this. It would also look cute with a fitted top and booties. I can’t believe it took me this long to hop on this trend because I may actually live in these jeans.

Don’t forget I am hosting an awesome giveaway to win The Minted Necklace from Noonday which is ethically produced and a fair trade partner and you can easily enter to win that necklace HERE!

Top-Versona // Skirt-Versona // Necklace-Versona (only available in stores) // Sunnies-Versona (only available in stores) // Booties-Target (old, similar)

I loved this look so much from my styling with Versona in Asheville that I had to share a little more. I absolutely love this look. It’s really simple to play up any look that may be intended for dressing up. This skirt was in the dressier section of Versona so I paired it with an oversized, flowy cotton shirt tucking only a portion in. Tucking only a portion in accents the waist and gives a more relaxed, edgy vibe. Since I did color blocking I wanted to add a pop of color without going overboard which is why I opted for neon Navajo inspired necklace. Paired with my favorite black booties gives it even a more relaxed look. Fashion is all about playing around and finding what works for you. If you want to see the other looks I styled with Versona you can do so here!

Also I have two different GIVEAWAYS going at the moment. You can enter to win a $50.00 Amazon gift card package and a Mani/Pedi package in honor of Mother’s Day HERE! You can enter to win a fair trade, ethical mint green necklace perfect for Spring, Mother’s Day or graduation HERE!

Beanie- $6.00 // Blanket Scarf- $18.95 // Sweater-$29.99 // Sunnies-$8.95 // Floral Necklace– $25.00 // Husk Necklace-$19.95 // Asheville Skyline Necklace-$19.95 // Silk Tie Clutch-$29.99 // Earrings-$12.00

Can you believe it’s now only 8 days until Christmas including today? Crazy I know! Have you got all of your Christmas shopping done? Well if you live in Asheville have no fear because I have done some “research” on the greatest little boutique where you can get all of your last minute shopping done for absolutely any lady in your life. And the best part? You won’t kill your bank account too much. Plus you might walk out with a few things for yourself.

I have visited Charmed a few times before but popped in again to scope out some great gift ideas for you. And let me just take a minute to say they are slaying it with everything they have in stock right now. The store is filled with every accessory imaginable plus a small collection of clothing. But if you need more clothes, you can head over to their newest location (across the street) Southern Charm for affordable options.

Literally this place is an accessory lovers heaven! The store is filled with local designers, designers from the U.S. and of course regular trendy wholesale pieces. The local stuff is something that could fit everyone’s taste. These earrings and the husk necklace I’m wearing are from a local designer BellaCJewelz, and very affordable. The earrings are only $12.00 (umm yes please) and there are some for every style. And this Asheville necklace! How adorable (and yes I’m pretty sure I need it in my life)?! Some of my favorite things were the wire wrapped necklaces from Pink & White Design (I’m wearing the floral one) and Charmed‘s collection of trendy/couture inspired sunnies.

Plus I had to play dress up! Duh. I went with a super affordable beanie, deep hued blanket scarf, grey sweater and Kat Von D (ish) glasses paired with my t-shirt dress, leggings and fringe booties for an urban city look. In this #ootd I want to go teach an art class, hit up the shops downtown and then grab dinner at a new swanky restaurant in town.

So for any lady on your last minute gift list, you are sure to find something at Charmed!

I want to thank Zoe for letting me come play dress up and take pictures of her beautiful store and also thank Clementyne for being my lovely hostest and stylist for the morning!

Handmade Holidays

Handmade HolidaysHandmade HolidaysHandmade HolidaysHandmade Holidays

The holidays can be really expensive, trust me I know. So when it comes to gifting all the people on your list something unique it can be really hard without going over your budget. So I’ve come up with a really affordable, stylish and chic handmade wall hanging. This is really easy to make (no loom or knowledge of weaving needed) and extremely affordable.

I actually pulled the branch from a tree for the holder but you could use any dowel or rod from a craft or hardware store. I picked up some soft textured yarn, I used only one colored but you could use as many colors as you want. I simply cut the yarn in to strips and tied the yarn around the stick, I used a basic marine knot to keep them in place. Once I got the entire skeen of yarn on the stick, I hung it up and cut the yarn in to a design. At this point you could add beads, feathers or anything else. Attach a piece of yarn or different string to make a handle for it to be hung up.

Wall hangings are very popular right now and if you look all over Etsy you can find a ton. You can find them in many designs and at many price ranges but if you want something truly unique, try your hand at making one. Mine is very simple because it is for my wall, and where it is going I wanted something very minimal. I spent under $3.00 (thanks to a Michaels killer sale and nature, plus word on the street is Michaels is having a huge yarn sale next week) and would feel completely comfortable giving this as a gift. If you make this take a picture and tag me so I can see your wall hanging!

Gift Guide: For The Artist

Gift Guide: For The Artist

I am lucky to live somewhere where I am surrounded my artist and creative minds alike. They fuel my creativity and inspire me every day. I have created a gift guide fit for artists (also everything is under $40.00) that artist could actually use besides those awkward gift sets you can find at your local craft stores. These are things artists can actually use and as an artist these are things I would love to get as a gift. If all else fails you can always opt for a gift card to your local craft store or art supply store.

Brush Cleaner– Yes it is very easy to wash your brushes with soap and water and it is done a lot. But to preserve your brushes every once in a while an artist needs to deep clean their brushes so they last longer. I really like “The Masters” brand because it works well with all mediums for deep cleaning brushes.

Palette Knives– As an artist I think a good stock pile of palette knives is needed. These things are so easy to bend so grabbing a few for the artist in your life is always a good idea. Artist use these for both mixing paints, creating their own paints and even painting with. This is also a good idea if you have an artist who is wanting to experiment with different types of painting techniques. This whole set is under $7.00!

An Art Book– Artist like to enjoy other artists work, they like to display art. Why not get them a coffee table book specifically about the kind of art they like. I like modern art so this book would be perfect for myself. This is the kind of gift that would go great with a season pass to their favorite art gallery!

Pocket Journal– It’s important for artist to have an artistic outlet any time, anywhere. Where they can make quick sketches or jot down ideas they pull from their surroundings. An unlined drawing journal that can fit in their bag or pocket is perfect. If you think they have plenty lying around, they use them and sometimes can use them up fast. It’s always good to have an extra one and especially a smaller one.

Art Palette– Some palettes are a little more expensive, especially airtight ones. Not all artists are starving but they are normally on a budget, so splurging on something like this Martin Universal Airtight Peel-Off Palette might be out of the question. These are perfect for painting not just to hold your paint, but also if an artist is working on an in depth project this conserves paint. You can store your paint overnight or for days, you can mix a unique color and not have to continue trying to get it the same because you can save it. I had one very similar to this in college and loved it if I wasn’t getting a painting done in one sitting. Plus if you buy this from Michaels you can use a coupon!

Micron Pens– First, let me just rave about these pens. I love them! These pens are a little on the pricey side for pens but they are worth it. These pens are acid free and smudge proof so perfect for art. An artist can use these for signing pieces, doodling, drawing, mixed media; the options are just about endless for these pens!

Some other great gifts for artist that are very affordable could be good soap and lotion (since artist wash their hands a lot), drop cloths, iTunes gift cards or albums (artist generally like to have music playing while they are creating), gift cards to craft stores (Dick Blick, AC Moore, Michaels, etc.), membership to a local museum or gallery or a piece of art.
