Today is officially Fall! Enter all the heart eye and praise hands emojis! There are so many things to love about Fall especially Halloween. Halloween is my second favorite holiday. But all the festive things can add up and put a major hurting on your wallet. From decorations, to candy, to costumes and all the parties you are attending, it really drains your bank account. So whether you are a seriously broke girlfriend or you just wait until as last minute as you can, here are 10 costumes you create fast, on a budget and with mostly what you may already have in your closet.

WITCH

This costume is about as basic as they come, but also easy and perfect for anyone in a time crunch or on a tight budget. Any black dress will work especially the more lacey or flowy the dress is, the better. Any tights and booties will work. Pull out all the stops with all that celestial jewelry that have been extremely popular lately. Bring on the best of your vampy makeup and anything will work for a witch costume. All you will need to buy is a witch’s hat ($3.00 from Target).

ICE CREAM CONE

Then you need colored card stock ($4.99 at Michaels) cut in to long strips and either glue or sew on to the white top. Here is the tutorial on how to make the fun cherry on top!

IRIS APFEL

A true fashion icon and the best thing about going as Iris is you can literally wear anything. Add bright colors and fur to make it extra Iris. And you can’t forget jewelry. All you need for this costume is really denim and flannel. You can put on a floppy hat and add some straw for some extra realistic vibes. You can even hot glue a crow on your shoulder for a more spooky version of this costume. But the most important part of this costume is the makeup. Find a tutorial HERE.

CACTUS

I can just imagine all the cute Instagram captions and pictures with this outfit. The most popular plant currently can be your costume. And you can even use cheesy lines like “don’t be a prick and bring me a drink please!” Dig out your brown pants and a hot glue gun. You will need a green sweatshirt ($11.39 at Wal-Mart), colored tulle ($2.99 at Michaels) and pipe cleaners ($2.99 at Michaels). You will want to cut up the pipe cleaners and fold in a “v” shape and hot glue on the sweatshirt as the prickly parts of the cactus. You can then cut up some tulle and put on the cuffs or make a headband out of it as the flower. Bonus points if you can find a ceramic pot wherever you are at and just stand there!

I hope you all get inspired for some Halloween costume ideas!

The Land of The Free and The Home of the Stylish

Earlier this week I posted a pretty cliche outfit idea for the Fourth of July. But you don’t have to dress in head to toe festive wear including stars and stripes, there are more stylish ways to dress festive and celebrate in style. But if you do the whole cliche #ootd, that’s totally cool and you do you boo; but it’s not for everyone.

If you are wanting to be patriotic and still stylish it’s very simple. Find a color palette of blues, reds or whites. You can actually mix all three in tastefully like adding a red lip to a classic jean shorts and white t-shirt look. Extremely casual, perfect for the holiday activities and still festive AF. Also all the Summer vibes which the 4th of July is all about. I opted for the very classic white tee and denim shorts look paired with funky glasses, classic white chucks and a bold bright red lip. I through on this cocoon light weight jacket that is hand dyed with indigo for another hue of blue and a little more fun for the classic look. Also the weather has been extremely bipolar in the mountains so chilly mountain air will probably make an appearance in the evening of the Fourth.  It makes a fashionable statement for the holiday but it’s also as American as apple pie and baseball.

You can find things in your closet already to wear. Like I said; just look for hues of reds, whites or blues. And put something together to make you feel put together for the holiday.

I originally tucked the white tee in to the shorts for a little more of a fun look. But I also understand it’s not for everyone. And this outfit looks just as fun with the shirt untucked.

I hope all of you have a great long holiday weekend (if you get that) and hope you all have a great time next week celebrating Summer and #Merica!

Seeing Stars

SHOP THIS POST: Tank // Jeans // Sneakers // Scarf (in stores only in the Dollar Spot) // Sunnies

We’ve come a long way in styling an #ootd for the Fourth of July since our mom dressed us and our siblings in matching Old Navy Flag Shirts. Ohh you know exactly what I’m talking about. And if you feel so inclined to go down memory lane, they are still producing their classic flag tee every year, here’s this year’s version. So this year I opted for some classic Old Navy goodness to bring together my patriotic 4th of July outfit.

I went for a super casual tank, that has stars on it, duhhh. Extremely flowy, really faded and all the Americana vibes. And by faded, I mean real faded. You will only be able to wear a nude bra with this because the material is extremely lightweight (yes please for that hot, sticky day) and you can see through it, especially the star portion. I like this tank because it’s cliche enough to wear for fireworks and cook outs but I can totally style this all Summer longer for a little edgier look. And it’s also not over the top cliche. But it’s the 4th of July, so who really cares honestly.

I paired this tank with cuffed jeans for that perfect Summer touch and a more grown up and pulled together look than pairing this with shorts. Ohh I cuffed these jeans to have some sort of air flow because we all know it’s bound to be hot and sweaty on the holiday in the South. Threw on some white chucks and paired it with a festive scarf and I’m ready to go. Can you guys believe I found this scarf in the Dollar Spot at Target?!? Red, lightweight and it has the most adorable patriotic tassels along the edges. $3.00! Win, Win for something you won’t wear all the time.

This look is perfect for a BBQ, beer and fireworks. Also if you are in Asheville please let me know where you watch fireworks. Almost 8 holidays here and I still haven’t found the “perfect” spot. Bring on the sparklers!

What are y’all wearing and getting in to for the holiday?

I’ll be sharing a more sophisticated 4th of July outfit later this week, because some of us will still choose fashion and style over cliche holiday vibes.

Also make sure you are following me on Instagram because I am hosting a huge giveaway for a Summer makeover along with some other amazing blogger babes this week! Get yourself entered!

Pops of Red

There are times when I do like to add a pop of color to an outfit, especially around holidays. So since Valentine’s Day is right around the corner it’s the perfect excuse to add some pops of red to an #ootd. I’m not the hugest fan of pink (unless it’s blush and muted) so red is my go to Valentine’s Day color.

This outfit works perfectly for me for Valentine’s Day. It’s comfortable, flattering and perfect for date night just about anywhere. Adding tights and booties gives it that extra layer of warmth for the cold spell we are having in the mountains and are bound to have in February. But this would be cute sans those with some strappy black sandals. I added a bold necklace to give the sleek and modern fit of the outfit another pop and fun element for date night. Since a pencil skirt and peplum is enough on it’s on, I added a classic vintage clutch just big enough for necessities. And there it is, the perfect Valentine’s date night outfit!

What will all of you be wearing for Valentine’s Day?

A Year in Review

Y’all it’s New Years Eve! How is this even possible?!? Even though it has been a rough year for many, there were tons of unfortunate events, an election year that brought out the worst in people and there are a tons of memes saying let’s just forget this year; 2016 wasn’t all bad in my books. I accomplished some great feats. I graduated college, I landed an internship with a local fashion designer that has now turned to freelance work, I hammocked more than I ever thought I would, I traveled to the beach for graduation celebration and camped for a whole weekend in October and I finally got to see Adele in concert (and we all know those tickets were actually the hardest things on the planet to get). As far as the blog, I decided to keep it going after school, made some changes in my fashion decisions, partnered with some great brands, started working with sustainable, ethical and fair trade companies, and met a lot of great people along the way. So 2016 really wasn’t that bad. So here are some of my highlights from 30shadesofstephanie.com and I can’t wait to see what 2017 holds for both myself and blogging.

Mountain side photoshoots will always be my favorite.

Our 2016 big snow.

Valentine’s Day 2016!

My first Rachel Weisberg product, now I have a little collection growing!

This year I’ve really taken the time to discover and explore nature.

Will still love this outfit.

One of my all time favorite outfits for the blog!

The day I took my final, final exam and received grades by 12 that day. The day I found out I was an official college graduated. And we celebrated at Hilton Head Island.

We actually celebrated all week.

Went and chopped my hair off because it was time for a change, plus found the perfect hairstylist in Asheville, Jessy at Bari.

Celebrated getting another year older.

Went on an 3 night camping trip at Fall Creek Falls. I survived, it wasn’t horrible. We liked this place so much we may actually go back.

Gilmore Girls had a revival this year. On Black Friday to be exact. So thanks to Netflix, Luke’s diner did a pop up in Asheville. Of course I went.

Traveled to Atlanta to see Adele with my girl Anne. Thanks so much to Andrew for taking us, dealing with us talking about the show the following few days and constantly talking about it until the actual show. One of the best nights of my life.

Blog collab.

Holiday Season!

I hope all of you had a great year, are looking forward to the new year and I hope you all have a fun and safe #NYE!

Check out the blog tomorrow to reintroduce myself to new followers, what I would like to achieve for 2017 and what to expect from me as far as blogging!

Edgy Sparkles

I bought this skirt during a huge Black Friday sale, planning to wear it to a blogger function I was attending the week before Christmas. I got an idea of what I would be doing and sadly this was just to dressy for it. Instead of returning it, because it honestly was a really good deal, I decided I would keep it for every day wear. Because you can totally do that with sequins. It doesn’t have to be Christmas or New Years to wear a little sparkle, especially if done right.

So that’s how this #ootd was born. Something I would wear to a NYE party or would even wear for a date night in Asheville. Mixing plaid with this sequin shirt, gives it a more casual and approachable look to it. Making it more me! I already have a few ways I could style this with some more casual things in my closet but for now, I’m going with plaid.

Don’t be afraid to mix dressier items with more casual items. Generally when you do this you really do achieve that whole city chic, I could live in the city vibe. And who doesn’t want to achieve that. #GOALS. It’s also trial and error. I tried several other tops on with this and sadly they just weren’t hitting the mark. So play around, find something you like to pair with sparkles.

Whether mixing sequins in to your NYE #ootn or just wanting to add something a little more glam to your closet, I hope you all have a sparkly, stylish new year ahead of you!

Unconventional NYE Dress

It’s almost time to ring in the new year, which means reflections, resolutions, goals, dressing up and champagne toasts. Maybe even a kiss at midnight if you are one of those lucky ones.

But before you go and spend a fortune on a sparkly dress that you may only wear one night, let me just share my golden rule for #NYE dressing. YOU WEAR WHAT YOU WANT! You don’t have to wear a sparkly, fancy dress to celebrate the new year. You don’t have to go buy a new dress to celebrate the new year. I like wearing whatever I want, and to be honest I will probably be in my Old Navy plaid pjs by 10:00 anyways!

So pick something you like, even if the print is unconventional for NYE. I pulled this dress out of my closet, perfect for celebrating and perfect for the new year even though it’s a winter floral print. Paired with leggings and booties it looks fancy enough for going out, but adds comfort and my own personal style. I also love the idea of wearing a winter floral print for New Years, it’s symbolic. You want to bloom into a better version of yourself through goals in the new year.

If you are wearing a shiny, sparkly, sequin clad #ootn, you go for it, but don’t feel obligated too.

Merry Merry

And I can’t believe it’s almost here. I can’t contain my excitement as we grow closer. I can’t wait to put on some fun clothes and celebrate with those around me. So I’m not big in to wearing festive color dresses because an entire red dress does not look good on my pale skin and I can never find a green dress I really like this time of year. So pops of festive colors is my answer. Sadly this stole and shoes are sold out because they were on massive sale on Black Friday and I couldn’t resist either of them. These shoes are just amazing! And the fur just gives a luxe feel that Christmas is all about. So if you are like me, and don’t do the full on festive wear, dress up your #ootd with festive accents, you can’t go wrong and you will still look festive! Happy Holidays loves!

Getting in the Christmas Spirit

It’s the final countdown to Christmas. Am I the only one who can’t believe that there are only 6 days until Christmas? I know some of you have been listening to Christmas music for a while, but now is the time to really blare it. So I’ve rounded up a few of my favorites and let me tell you holy flash back to late 90’s early 2000’s!
