A Year in Review

Y’all it’s New Years Eve! How is this even possible?!? Even though it has been a rough year for many, there were tons of unfortunate events, an election year that brought out the worst in people and there are a tons of memes saying let’s just forget this year; 2016 wasn’t all bad in my books. I accomplished some great feats. I graduated college, I landed an internship with a local fashion designer that has now turned to freelance work, I hammocked more than I ever thought I would, I traveled to the beach for graduation celebration and camped for a whole weekend in October and I finally got to see Adele in concert (and we all know those tickets were actually the hardest things on the planet to get). As far as the blog, I decided to keep it going after school, made some changes in my fashion decisions, partnered with some great brands, started working with sustainable, ethical and fair trade companies, and met a lot of great people along the way. So 2016 really wasn’t that bad. So here are some of my highlights from 30shadesofstephanie.com and I can’t wait to see what 2017 holds for both myself and blogging.

Mountain side photoshoots will always be my favorite.

Our 2016 big snow.

Valentine’s Day 2016!

My first Rachel Weisberg product, now I have a little collection growing!

This year I’ve really taken the time to discover and explore nature.

Will still love this outfit.

One of my all time favorite outfits for the blog!

The day I took my final, final exam and received grades by 12 that day. The day I found out I was an official college graduated. And we celebrated at Hilton Head Island.

We actually celebrated all week.

Went and chopped my hair off because it was time for a change, plus found the perfect hairstylist in Asheville, Jessy at Bari.

Celebrated getting another year older.

Went on an 3 night camping trip at Fall Creek Falls. I survived, it wasn’t horrible. We liked this place so much we may actually go back.

Gilmore Girls had a revival this year. On Black Friday to be exact. So thanks to Netflix, Luke’s diner did a pop up in Asheville. Of course I went.

Traveled to Atlanta to see Adele with my girl Anne. Thanks so much to Andrew for taking us, dealing with us talking about the show the following few days and constantly talking about it until the actual show. One of the best nights of my life.

Blog collab.

Holiday Season!

I hope all of you had a great year, are looking forward to the new year and I hope you all have a fun and safe #NYE!

Last Minute Affordable Christmas Shopping With Charmed + Poncho Scarf Giveaway

I have a lot of fashionistas to buy for for Christmas and we all know that can get expensive. And that’s why I love Charmed. I can get scarves, hats, jewelry and funky sunglasses for all those on my list without breaking the bank. Which is a plus plus for everyone. So when the opportunity came up to partner with Charmed I jumped at the chance to show some of my favorite locally made and fun, affordable finds!

This kimono is one of my favorites. There were several prints and hues, but we all know I’m attracted to darker colors. This is the perfect accessory to gift or give to yourself because it’s like a kimono, poncho and blanket scarf all in one. The possibilities with this is absolutely endless and will be that warm cuddly piece you or your favorite fashionista is constantly reaching for. What’s even better than the endless options of this piece? The price! This kimono is under $40.00! Also another bonus, you can currently win this on Instagram (info at the bottom of the post) thanks to the lovely ladies at Charmed!

Charmed isn’t just your local affordable jewelry store, even though they have a ton to choose from, but their clothing selection is growing and constantly growing. This blush sweater was probably the softest thing next to cashmere and the perfect color. And this bright green vest is the perfect pop of color for the holidays without going overboard. Also can we talk about this bag!

One of the hottest trends this year is the bralette. Can give sultry, funky or a athletic vibe and Charmed has a whole display to choose from. Every color of the rainbow and numerous different styles, it’s no wonder it’s their best seller. And you can’t beat the price of $10.00!

The jewelry is amazing. They feature a few local artist and one larger local retailer. A bunch of Asheville style jewelry, funky, unique and stylish. Literally you can find something for anyone on your Christmas list or the perfect stocking stuffers. These earrings I actually got for a Secret Santa gift because who could pass on that boho chic vibe.

Seriously y’all go check them out! You will be able to cross off a lot of ladies on your list in one stop and you can probably get some “to me, from me” gifts.

Now you can actually win the kimono that I have featured. All you have to do is find the photo below on Instagram and follow the instructions there! Y’all this is seriously something you want to try to win!

The Luxe Scarf + Rachel Weisberg Choker Giveaway

You’ve got to love when your friend is a fashion designer! You get to see and sample all the goodies. And Rachel Weisberg did not disappoint with this Long Scarf. The scarf is made of velvety, cupro fibers and hand dyed in her Asheville studio. The cupro fibers give the scarf an extremely soft touch and the hand dye job gives a unique flair to each scarf. You are literally getting to wear your own little original piece of art. Though soft it packs in the heat and is perfect for bundling up in and or dressing up a plain jane #ootd. It’s totally city chic. I already have a ton of ways I want to wear this. And one will be for my Christmas Eve dinner, probably Christmas day festivities as well.

You can get your own Long Scarf at rachel-weisberg.com or you can find them locally in Asheville at Embellish.

When you are a fashion blogger and your friend is a fashion designer, of course she participates in your holiday giveaways. So today on Instagram I am giving away a Rachel Weisberg choker (in your choice of the brown or black). All you have to do is find the picture below and follow the instructions (they are oh so easy)!

Low Key Holiday Glam + Instagram ColourPop Giveaway

I am super simple when it comes to my make up. Even when the holiday events and parties roll around. I can’t do crazy dramatic eyes because I have extremely watery and sensitive eyes. So to avoid a mess and styes I keep it simple every day. I have been loving my Kat Von D palette for eyes and it goes perfect for the holidays as well since that rusty color is very popular. I kept my wing simple since I was going for a more dramatic lip. And by dramatic I mean sparkly. I love playing with make up just as much as the next person so thought I would go for a shimmery lip. I added Bad Blood by Urban Decay and then went over it with this new NYX Lip Of The Day Art Pen in a rose gold. I topped the entire look off with Bardot blush from ColourPop Cosmetics because it gives an equal part glowy goddess, equal part wind kissed cheeks.

So I have recently fallen in love with ColourPop this year. After hearing all the hype I decided I would give it a whirl and fell in love. **Most of the products are vegan (a few products are not), the entire line is cruelty free and all the product is made here in the USA. Plus let me not forget to mention the entire brand is affordable. So you think it might not be great. Nope way wrong. The quality is amazing for the price you pay. The matte lips I have purchased have stayed on longer than any liquid lipstick I own. You can find anyone some goodies from ColourPop for gifts; almost everyone I know is getting something from the brand for Christmas. (SHHH don’t tell)

So I wanted to share the love with all of you. I am giving away a Bardot Super Shock Cheek and a Ultra Matte Lip in Mink from the Blues Baby collection. All you have to do is find the picture below on my Instagram and follow the instructions there:

P.S. It’s really simple to enter! All you have to do is like the picture and follow me!

Also make sure you check back here and Instagram daily because I will be giving away a product from different companies all week!

Happy Glam Holidays!

I hate to be the Grinch, but I really have been lately. I put my tree up before Thanksgiving because I was in the spirit (plus let’s face it I knew I wouldn’t have time), I had Christmas music blaring on Thanksgiving, I have all my presents bought and am in the process of wrapping. But I haven’t been in the mood. I have cried because I love Christmas and it just doesn’t feel right (cue this Christmas song). Life and mother nature have both got in the way. My heart has been broken by the tragic fires throughout WNC and Eastern TN so when it rained I did a happy dance, but also cried because I needed blog pictures for the week and couldn’t get them. Some things have happened in work and there is the possibility of receiving a promotion so I have been killing myself trying to prove myself. I’ve literally worked and slept. On Wednesday I didn’t even eat all day because I worked a long shift, forgot lunch and passed out hardcore when I got home.

But it changed on Thursday. Andrew and I normally do a secret santa situation for a child in need, but this year the opportunity hit closer than we thought. A former coworker was in need. We decided to help this individual other than someone we don’t actually know. It’s the first day in almost a week and a half I put on clothes that weren’t jeans and work shirts, put on make up and actually fixed my hair. Oh it was photo worthy because I hadn’t seen myself like this in a while. Maybe it’s because I finally felt festive, or maybe because I was heading to Target.

A giving heart is always stylish and something every person, even the #fashionistas need to have. I got in the spirit. So as planned for this week, but dampened by the rain and lack of photos, I will be doing a week of giveaways on the blog from some awesome boutiques and companies. Because I truly want to give back to you guys!

Chic Holiday Hair Styles For The Everyday Girl

It’s time to pull out the party dresses, over sized sweaters, plaid and everything that sparkles. However, you could have the perfect #ootd but when it comes to your hair, it could all just fall flat (no pun intended). Your hair is your best accessory on any given day, but for the holidays it’s even more important. You can’t have a chic, festive look and a hair style that looks like you gave up on it. And trust me, we’ve all been there where we find something and try to recreate it and it just doesn’t work out. I wish we all had the opportunity to have our hair done by a stylist every day, especially during the holiday season, but let’s face it; we all don’t have the time or funds. So, with the thanks of Jessy from Bari Salon, we came up with three looks perfect for your festive attire that you can actually recreate at home.

Short hair? No problem! Slick, straight bobs look great, but if you are wanting something more fun or a little different for the holiday season, try curls. It looks great and chic! Also the messier you can get this look, the more city chic you will look.

Here’s how to get this look:

Spray a thin coat of GRID or any structural hold setting spray all over the hair.

Take vertical sections of hair and curl away from the face. Can curl every section of the hair or you can curl a few pieces here and there for a more edgy look.

Tousle curls to loosen them and spray the ends of the curls with DEATH VALLEY or any dry shampoo. Dry shampoo actually helps create texture and helps hold curls!

Use a fine coat of TINSEL or any smoothing oil to help keep fly aways at bay.

The ponytail has made a come back recently, but not your gym class style pony. A full, curled, high sitting and elastic hidden ponytail is perfect for casual, festive days (Christmas morning with cameras at every angle) or even glam occasions (that office party where you may be drinking too many glasses of champagne). Plus side, it’s really easy to recreate and anyone can rock it.

Here’s how to get this look:

Pull hair into a tight, high ponytail leaving out a tiny piece of hair near the hair tie.

Pull apart the ponytail and spray VICIOUS or a strong hold hairspray throughout the hair to create texture.

Curl sections of the ponytail in alternate directions. Can use any size curling iron for this depending on the size of the curls you want.

Tousle curl for a more natural look once finished curling. Pinch the ends of the curls and push upwards while holding the ends.

Spray ends with DEATH VALLEY or any dry shampoo.

Wrap the hair you left out of the hair tie around the ponytail and secure with a bobby pin to finish the look.

When dressing up, whether it be for parties or family Christmas cards, you really can’t go wrong with curls and braids. There is something so effortlessly chic about the look. A half up do is also a little more glam so will be perfect for any of your sparkly dresses, cocktail dresses or your dress with a bow.

Here’s how to get the look:

Section top half hair and braid both sides of the top portion going back.

Secure the braids in the center with a bobby pin and spray a fine mist of GRID or structural setting spray over the braids.

Curl bottom section in alternating directions.

Brush through the curls and tousle.

Spray a finishing layer of VICIOUS or a strong hold flexible hairspray to complete the look.

****Huge thanks to Jessy for helping create these three looks! I swear by her. I’m in love with my new cut and every way I style it thanks to all her advice, suggestion and of course the cut. If you are in need of a new cut or just a style, she’s your girl! Also shout out to fellow fashion blogger, Ferriss from Just Ferriss and local fashion designer, Rachel Weisberg for playing models for us for the day!

Top // Jeans // Booties (similar) // Earrings // Hair Clip (in stores only at Versona)

I honestly can’t believe next Thursday is Thanksgiving! How is this even possible?

So I start thinking about the holidays and how my wardrobe will work for the holidays early on. Probably when Fall fashion starts hitting the shelves. I’m not the hugest sparkle fan (even though you will be seeing a fun skirt soon) so it’s ok for me to start looking early. A few things come to mind. First off I want to be stylish because I’m known as the fashion blogger in the family and because I know pictures are going to be taken if I’m not planning on them. But then there are a few other things to keep in mind but mainly is it comfortable. I mean there is a lot of cooking, a lot of relaxing, a lot of running around and then there is a lot of eating.

So when I saw this blouse at Target I knew it was the perfect thing to wear to Thanksgiving dinner! It screams fall, the color is perfect for Thanksgiving, it’s flowy and it has some awesome detailing. I was sold! I’ve decided to pair it with distressed denim and booties for a casual, comfortable yet chic look. I’m going to go ahead and call this my sophisticated pilgrim #ootd.

Feminine Lumberjack

Flannel // Skirt (similar) // Tights // Booties (similar) // Necklace (similar) // Lip Color // Eyeshadow

I grew up in the 90’s and lived in a small country, farm town. So I love flannel, I love plaid. When I moved to Asheville I thought I would be wearing plaids and flannels all the time, but little did I know I would fall in a rut with both the print and fabric. Asheville weather is well, Asheville weather. It can be warm one part of the week and snowing by the end of the week. Also elevation changes are intense here so it may be semi warm in downtown then up the mountain you are freezing. So it was hard to wear them because if you wear a real flannel you know you are burning up. Plus when I turned 21 and was in to being at a bar in beer city almost every night, wearing plaid or flannel made you look like that hipster lumberjack wannabe. So I retired them. But recently have brought them back because now I know how to wear a flannel and plaid without either looking like a total lumberjack or burning up in them.

Dressing them up! That’s the answer. Paired with a skirt or dress and they are instantly more feminine. I paired this dreamy buffalo plaid flannel from Old Navy (only $14.00 currently) with an old black lacey skater skirt and went a step further with the statement necklace for a pop of glam. As far as burning up, either layer or go up a size in a flannel so it isn’t so tight to your body. Also if you go up a size you have plenty of other layering options for the flannel.

I love this look! It’s actually perfect for the upcoming holiday season and screams Fall! If you are leary of plaid or flannel (which at this point it’s everywhere so you shouldn’t) try a scarf in the print which can go with just about anything or layer a cozy sweater over your flannel so only the hems, collar and sleeves are showing.

Almost Black Out

Almost Black OutAlmost Black OutAlmost Black OutAlmost Black OutAlmost Black OutAlmost Black Out

Jeans // Sweater // Scarf (only in stores) // Booties (old)

I like to wear black, it’s really just that simple. A black out #ootd makes me feel chic, pulled together and slimmed down. But sometimes you just need a pop of color. I like to do that with either necklaces or scarves; since it finally felt like Fall in Asheville this weekend a scarf it was. This scarf may remind you of Mardi Gras but the rich jewel tones scream Fall. So I finally got to wear this as it was intended to be worn (it’s been tied around a bag since I bought it). And I love this! Perfect for just about anything, I even wore this to head a planner meetup this Sunday!

Wear what you want! Even if others tell you to wear something else. I get told all the time I need to wear more color. I like black outfits and I’m going to keep wearing black outfits!
